The Defined Contribution Investment Director within PNC's Asset Management Group Investment Office supports the Retirement Solutions / Fiduciary Investment Services line of business. This role is based in Philadelphia, PA, with additional PNC locations considered. The director leads the investment team, focusing on investment strategy, fiduciary oversight, retirement plan advisor support, and thought leadership while managing and developing an investment team.
Key Responsibilities- Investment Strategy & Fiduciary Oversight
- Lead the development and ongoing maintenance of the Retirement Solutions investment philosophy, including lineup construction, asset class preferences, active/passive implementation, and approved investment vehicles.
- Oversee fiduciary investment due diligence processes for 3(21) and 3(38) services in alignment with Investment Policy Statements and internal control standards.
- Represent the organization as a 3(38) Investment Manager, reviewing and approving Investment Policy Statements, evaluating client requested changes, and partnering with Legal on material updates.
- Advisor & Client Support
- Serve as a trusted investment resource to Retirement Plan Advisors by providing guidance on client-specific investment questions, lineup construction, and target date fund reviews.
- Participate in client and prospect meetings as requested, offering investment observations, insights, and presentation support.
- Train newly hired advisors on investment philosophy, fiduciary processes, reporting tools, and investment protocols, and provide ongoing advisor education.
- Business Partnership & Thought Leadership
- Partner with Line of Business leadership to align on strategic objectives.
- Create and deliver investment thought leadership and educational content for clients, prospects, and advisors, including webinars and presentations.
- Contribute to sales and marketing efforts by reviewing or drafting investment-related RFP responses and presentation materials.
- Vendor & Platform Management
- Manage key vendor relationships (e.g., investment analytics and reporting platforms) and ensure service standards are met.
- Lead investment-related technology initiatives and system enhancements to improve advisor oversight, reporting accuracy, and efficiency.
- Partner with asset managers to identify opportunities for lower cost vehicle access and enhanced investment solutions.
- Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of investment professionals, fostering accountability, innovation, and collaboration.
- Align team priorities with business strategy, client needs, and retention goals.
- Significant experience in institutional retirement plan investments, fiduciary services, or investment advisory leadership.
- Deep knowledge of ERISA, 3(21) and 3(38) fiduciary services, investment due diligence, and retirement plan structures.
- Demonstrated people management experience with a track record of developing high-performing teams.
- Strong communication skills and proven ability to influence senior business partners, advisors, and clients.
- Experience working with investment platforms, analytics tools, and advisor reporting solutions.
- Professional investment or fiduciary designations (e.g., CFA) preferred.

Roles at this level typically require a university / college degree. Higher level education such as a Masters degree, PhD, or certifications is desirable. Industry experience is typically 8+ years.
