Job Summary
This position supports a finance team within Sponsored Programs, requiring a strong understanding of the full award lifecycle and key functions within Clinical Trial Finance, including budgeting, reporting, maintenance, and closeout. The role leverages advanced analytical skills, including Excel tools such as pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, XLOOKUPs, analyze in Excel (AIE) and macros, to improve efficiency and enhance financial analysis. Responsibilities include reviewing clinical trial-related financial data, ensuring accuracy and maintaining strong internal controls.
The position translates financial and operational data into actionable insights to support decision‑making. It ensures timely, accurate billing aligned with protocol requirements and participant encounters. Through analytics, standardized reporting and automation, the role strengthens financial stewardship, improves operational efficiency, and supports scalable, financial processes across clinical research activities.

- Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in finance, accounting, or another related field - Experience:
4 years of progressively responsible experience in finance and/or accounting with experience in planning, forecasting, and financial analysis.
- Complete a variety of complex monthly financial management reports and review all reports for errors and inconsistencies; analyze variations in forecasts and actual performance; determine reasons for variance; develop recommendations for improvement; complete written summaries of financial data.
- Prepare and/or supervise preparation of monthly financial reports, schedules for annual financial reports, and reports to various government agencies, ensuring conformance with applicable procedures and regulations of the University of Texas System and Federal and State agencies.
- Identify areas of poor performance, present findings, and make recommendations to upper management.
- Prepare financial models and conduct financial analyses.
- Maintain controls for policies and procedures for the financial system; develop and maintain delegation of authority of various procedures, such as check requests, refunds, invoice approval, bad debt write‑offs, etc.
- Complete more complex special projects as requested.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
