Job Description

The Credit Products Underwriter I - Commercial is primarily responsible for underwriting complex financial transactions in conjunction with CPU III, IV or CRMs. Responsibilities include financing investment real estate, owner‑occupied real estate, working capital, equipment, LBOs/acquisitions, healthcare-related opportunities, and credits with SBA guarantees. The role also involves independently underwriting non‑complex requests, providing product and industry expertise to clients, and designing and executing solutions for complex clients.

  • Manage multiple active credit requests from various Relationship Managers and geographic locations; prioritize and manage time efficiently.
  • Serve as the client‑facing liaison, providing consultation and collaboration to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Balance time between analysis, design, execution of deals, and joint client calls with RMs to provide advice.
  • Partner with RMs to assist in generating revenue and profitability.

How You’ll Spend Your Time
  • Prepare financial underwriting for transactions that impact lending division profitability.
  • Conduct credit analysis independently or with senior staff based on complexity.
  • Provide recommendations on transaction structure to Relationship and Department Managers.
  • Identify and document policy exceptions while gathering key customer information.
  • Collaborate with credit approval officers to support analysis and conclusions.
  • Assist in developing new credit business through joint calls with Relationship Managers.
  • Prepare compliance reports, commitment documents, and present credit information to management.
Education & Experience Requirements

This level of knowledge is normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor's degree and 2+ years of credit analysis/credit products underwriter experience; or 7+ years of equivalent work‑related experience.

  • Ability to communicate and convey information clearly through multiple channels.
  • Ability to leverage a network of relationships with clients, relationship managers, and peers for organizational goals.
  • General knowledge of credit principles, lending functions, loan analysis, and credit policies.
  • Excellent organizational skills and meticulous work habits.
  • Ability to critically review work for errors and incorrect conclusions.
  • Ability to complete assignments quickly and efficiently with minimal direction.
  • Proactive communication with colleagues and senior personnel.
  • Conflict management skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently under limited time frames.
  • General knowledge of loan documentation, loan policy, and regulations.
  • General knowledge of the Loan Grading Process.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Advanced PC and spreadsheet software skills.
