Direct Hire Aug 7, 2026 Our client, an established independent school in the Dallas area, is seeking a hands-on CFO to oversee its financial operations and support students, families, employees, and long-term strategic priorities. As a senior administrator and member of the School Leadership Team, the CFO will oversee financial planning, accounting, reporting, budgeting, cash management, payroll, and internal controls. This individual will serve as a strategic partner to the Head of School and work closely with the Board of Trustees and Finance Committee.
- Lead the school’s financial planning, accounting, budgeting, reporting, cash management, tax, payroll, and general ledger functions.
- Prepare and review financial statements, annual budgets, cash forecasts, investment reports, and long-term financial projections.
- Present financial updates and recommendations to the Head of School, Board of Trustees, and Finance Committee.
- Monitor financial performance, expenditures, risks, and funding needs.
- Develop recommendations regarding tuition, tuition assistance, and employee compensation.
- Support strategic planning through financial analysis, forecasting, and resource allocation.
- Lead the business office and oversee purchasing, employee benefits administration, and inventory controls.
- Establish and maintain effective financial procedures and internal controls.
- Manage the annual audit and maintain professional relationships with auditors, banks, attorneys, investment managers, insurance providers, and vendors.
- Partner with the Director of Development to ensure contributions and restricted funds are properly recorded and reported.
- Provide financial analysis and decision support for special projects and strategic initiatives.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field required.
- MBA, finance-related graduate degree, or active CPA license preferred.
- Minimum of five years of relevant professional experience; nonprofit educational experience is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of accounting, financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling.
- Experience with capital budgeting, long-term planning, and resource allocation.
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting software.
- Strong communication, presentation, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- High level of accuracy, sound judgment, and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and improve processes in support of an organization’s mission.
