The Customs Manager / Licensed Customs Broker is responsible for overseeing all customs brokerage operations within the assigned branch location. This role ensures full compliance with U.S. Customs & Border Protection (CBP) regulations by establishing, supervising, and maintaining required operating and recordkeeping procedures. The position works closely with internal import teams and external partners—including carriers, warehouses, and government agencies—to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant customs clearance of imported goods.
Key Responsibilities Customs Operations & Compliance- Oversee and manage all customs brokerage activities for NNR USA within the branch location.
- Establish, implement, and supervise all CBP‑required operating and recordkeeping procedures.
- Ensure compliance with U.S. customs laws, import/export regulations, and Partner Government Agency (PGA) requirements, including FDA, USDA, EPA, and DOT.
- Maintain an organized and auditable record of customs transactions in accordance with CBP regulations.
- Maintain individual Customs Broker license in good standing, with no penalties or restrictions.
- Utilize extensive knowledge of CBP rules and regulations to classify goods and determine applicable duties and rates.
- Prepare, review, and file all documentation required for customs clearance, including entry filings, withdrawals, bills of lading, and paperless entries.
- Prepare and submit Post Summary Corrections and Protests to CBP, as required.
- Investigate and resolve customs holds, discrepancies, and compliance issues.
- Advise clients on customs entry requirements, duty payments, bonding, and appeal procedures.
- Audit and transmit ACH statement payments to CBP.
- Assist the Regional Brokerage Manager with auditing customs entries for accuracy and regulatory compliance.
- Coordinate and monitor customs transactions to ensure financial and procedural accuracy.
- Maintain current knowledge of CBP regulations, procedures, and continuing education requirements.
- Stay informed of FDA, DOT, and other federal and state agency regulations governing imported goods, including hazardous materials, food products, and live animals.
- Provide guidance to internal teams and customers on regulatory changes and compliance best practices.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Two (2) years of college coursework preferred.
- Currently licensed by CBP as a Customs Broker, with no pending penalties or operational restrictions.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a licensed Customs Broker.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in importing, customs brokerage, or freight forwarding.
- Strong math skills to accurately calculate duties, freight, storage, and related charges.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including extended hours when required.
- Light physical work, including lifting up to 20 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to travel locally to ports, warehouses, and customer locations as required to conduct customs business.
- Sufficient near vision to accurately read and prepare written and electronic documentation.
