Position: Supervisory Wage and Hour Specialist (Deputy Regional Administrator)

Deputy Regional Administrator

This position functions as a Deputy Regional Administrator (DRA) responsible for assisting the Regional Administrator (RA) in accomplishing the mission of the Wage and Hour Program. The Wage and Hour Division (WHD) is an essential labor law enforcement agency responsible for enforcing significant labor laws affecting nearly 150 million workers. Our mission is to protect rights related to minimum wage, overtime, child labor, family and medical leave, employment conditions for migrant workers, lie detector tests, garnishments, prevailing wages on government-funded contracts, labor provisions of several guest worker programs, and more.

As a Supervisory Wage and Hour Specialist (Deputy Regional Administrator), you will perform the following duties which are not all-inclusive:

  • Directs Wage and Hour District Directors in developing, planning, carrying out, and evaluating the Wage and Hour enforcement program throughout the Region.
  • Directly provides guidance and management to the district and other field offices; supervises a significant portion of the regional staff that are involved in either administrative and resource management activities or enforcement and operational activities.
  • Assists the Regional Administrator (RA) in directing and administering a coordinated technical assistance program to promote voluntary compliance with the programs administered and enforced by the Wage and Hour Program within the Region, to assure the awareness by affected parties of their responsibilities and obligations under these statutes, their provisions, and the procedural requirements that must be followed to fulfill them.
  • Provides direction to regional managers, regional office staff and/or the Regional Solicitor on cases involving significant controversy, complex policy and interpretation of problems resulting from new legislation or changes in compliance concepts and techniques, and problems caused by the need for new guidelines.
  • Maintains continuous appraisals of the effectiveness of the Wage and Hour field program activities in the Region and recommends changes in policy and/or procedures to correct deficiencies and to meet new programmatic needs.
  • Visits District and field Offices regularly for the purpose of reviewing program operations, solving problems requiring a solution at the Regional or National Office level, consulting with District Directors on policies and plans and to provide direction, advice and assistance concerning any matters within assigned program areas.
  • Manages the resources (including HR, Budget, Facilities, IT, and contracts, required for particular program operations and functions. Oversees the expenditure of allotted funds and resource activities within the Region.
