Job SummaryThe Perfusionist provides patient care by operating extracorporeal circulation equipment during cardiac, pulmonary, and respiratory procedures. Responsibilities include selecting appropriate equipment, monitoring physiologic parameters, administering drugs and solutions, performing quality control, and maintaining records under physician supervision.
Essential Functions- Monitor altered circulatory processes and act promptly on abnormalities.
- Maintain sterility and integrity of disposable and non‑disposable equipment.
- Operate heart‑lung machine, cell saver, blood gas analyzer, and cardiac‑assist devices.
- Mix and administer drugs and solutions in line with industry best practices.
- Adjust gas flows, administer anesthetic agents, and manage extracorporeal circuit.
- Record and analyze perfusion data during and after surgery.
- Perform preventive maintenance and inventory management of equipment.
- Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, chemistry, and biology.
- Understanding of cardiac diseases, defects, and congenital anomalies.
- Familiarity with sterile and perfusion supplies for adult, pediatric, and infant patients.
- Expertise in operating extracorporeal circulation and autotransfusion equipment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to follow orders, implement written protocols, and collaborate in a team setting.
- Calmness under stress and ability to react quickly to emergent situations.

- Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited Perfusion program.
- Experience: 1–2 years of intermediate level perfusion experience preferred.
- Certification/License: Cert. Clinical Perfusionist (CCP) and Licensed Perfusionist (PERFUSIO) – Texas Medical Board.
- Other: Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire.
- Full‑time, variable work schedule; on‑call available.
