Job Summary

Works under minimal supervision with the physicians to perform ultrasound imaging exams, exam protocols, accreditation, operations, and facilitation of equipment maintenance.

Experience and Education
  • Required
    • Education
      Associate's Degree in Ultrasound Technology
    • Licenses and Certifications
      ARDMS (American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers) and RVT (Registered Vascular Technologist) and BLS (Basic Life Support) Certification, course accredited by AHA or ARC, by first day of employment or RVT certification obtained within 6 months of hire date (or termination if not obtained).

Shift

Sun-Tue & Fri, 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM

Job Duties
  • Maintains work area in a clean and orderly condition and ensures it is properly supplied for procedures. Demonstrates stewardship of hospital resources. Checks equipment and accessories for proper working order and notifies appropriate personnel for repairs. Responds to inquiries regarding procedures in a timely manner. Communicates problems on shift with equipment or pending exams with appropriate staff. Distributes departmental workloads equitably.

    Participates in training of new employees and students. Performs quality control on assigned equipment and reports issues timely. Attends departmental and facility meetings/classes. Completes required courses/modules on time. Performs duties in the best interest of patients, personnel and the facility. Adheres to time, attendance and dress code policies. May assume supervisory responsibilities in the absence of the designated supervisor. Participates in all regulatory compliance activities.
  • Patient Interaction:
    Verifies patient identification using two identifiers. Communicates clearly and professionally. Ensures proper patient preparation, verifies screening protocols, answers questions, evaluates patient history and symptoms for the procedure, and instructs patients and/or families regarding tests. Maintains current knowledge and skills to provide appropriate care for age groups including newborn, pediatric, young adult, adult and geriatric.
  • Exam Performance:
    Performs color duplex imaging procedures (carotid, extremity venous and arterial, abdominal Doppler, small parts, OB/GYN, general abdominal/body or other tests). Verifies requisitions and patient consent. Performs high-quality ultrasound examinations according to protocol in a timely manner. Assists physicians with additional imaging or biopsy procedures. Ensures images and records are properly labeled with patient data. Completes exam charges and forwards images to radiologist promptly.

    Administers contrast material as appropriate and monitors for adverse reactions.
  • Job Performance:
    Monitors and trains students, participates in orientation and training of new staff, contributes to QA/QC programs, participates in accreditation processes, and organizes conferences and technical meetings.
  • Arranges for maintenance and repair of equipment to minimize downtime.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
