Job Description
Athletic Trainer (205 Days) ANTICIPATED - ( RTP )
Description
- Perform activities related to athletic injury and illness prevention including physical examination and screening,
physical conditioning, fitting and maintenance of protective equipment, application of protective taping and padding,
and control of environmental risks. - Comply with moral and ethical codes of conduct to ensure safe athletic programs and minimize injury and illness risk
factors to the fullest extent possible. - Provide physical conditioning training to student athletes
- Fit injured athletes with specialized equipment and oversee the use of that equipment
- Apply tape, braces, and other protective devices in compliance with accepted and documented anatomical
biomechanical principles. - Respond to emergencies and make quick, independent judgments about how to deal with injuries
Identify acute injuries and provide first-aid triage, including assessing injuries and deciding whether an athlete should
discontinue participation in the athletic event and seek further medical attention. - Determine therapeutic goals and objectives for individual student athletes.
- Apply therapeutic modalities and instruct athletes on proper use of exercise equipment.
- Evaluate and record rehabilitation progress of athletes; develop criteria for progression and return to practice and
competition. - Follow professional, ethical, and legal parameters regarding the use of drugs and therapeutic agents for treatment and
rehabilitation of injured athletes. - Assist and coordinate scheduling of athletic physical examinations and screening.
- Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized records, reports, and other documents including medical,
accident, and treatment records as required. - Keep abreast of current and emerging sports medicine theories and practices, and disseminate information to
appropriate district personnel. - Develop and maintain good working relationships with the district’s sports medicine staff, athletes, coaches, medical
and paramedical personnel, and parents. - Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director of Athletics - Sports Medicine or Sports Medicine Manager.
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university in a directly related field;
Master’s Degree preferred; valid license from the Texas Advisory Board of Athletic Trainers; NATABOC preferred. - Minimum 5 years of directly related experience in thefield of athletic training.
- Demonstrated ability to instruct student athletes in the proper use of exercise equipment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of therapeutic modalities and the ability to assess injuries and determine therapeutic goals and objectives for individual student athletes.
- Demonstrated ability to make quick, independent judgments.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain cooperative relationships with coaches, athletes, and other district personnel.
- Demonstrated organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills to achieve the goals of the position.
