Job SummaryManages operational activities, priorities, and problems, technician staffing and workloads. Provides status report to pharmacy management effectively communicating issues, concerns, and suggestions as appropriate. Identifies opportunities for cost containment and promotes cost effective utilization of resources. Assists with budget preparation and daily financial activity specifically in relation to high cost drugs. Assists the Director and Assistant Vice President of Pharmacy with meeting administrative goals and objectives.
This role will support home infusion services that will be provided by pharmacy.

- Experience
- 3 years pharmacy management experience or
- completion of a Health System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership (HSPAL) resident program.
- English (speaking, reading, writing)
- Licenses and Certifications
- (BLS) BASIC LIFE SUPPORT Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) required by start date Upon Hire
- Eligible for licensure by Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP) is required Upon Hire
- Texas license with TSBP within 30 days of date of hire.
- Demonstrates continuous performance improvement in targeted areas of responsibility in alignment with the overall annual Hospital performance improvement targets.
- Meets or exceeds financial goals and objectives of the department.
- Maintains and enforces organizational and departmental policies, procedures, objectives, performance improvement initiatives, environmental and infection control standards.
- In the absence of the Director or when requested, represents the pharmacy department knowledgeably and professionally at all meetings, conferences, committees.
- Oversees pharmacy distribution processes. Works with staff in developing accurate and efficient distribution processes, policies, and procedures. Oversees and assists with annual controlled substance inventory and quarterly purchasing inventories.
- Assists the Director and Assistant Vice President of Pharmacy with implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the departmental strategic plan and standards of care. Works to eliminate or reduce predictable sources of billing, transcription, or dispensing errors.
- Mentors staff in good decision-making skills, and problem identification and resolution processes. Promotes staff ownership of the work environment encouraging process improvement actions.
- Assists pharmacy management by reporting drug purchase history information, NF usage, and nursing unit doses used for financial analysis and cost saving initiatives. Oversees pharmacy payroll processes, collating payroll data with workload units for assessing staffing efficiency.
- Maintains high visibility and availability through participation in departmental meetings and daily activities. Maintains effective communications with coordinators and technical staff providing leadership and support and assisting staff as necessary. Contributes ideas and identifies opportunities for process improvements to better deliver prompt and safe patient care.
- Actively involved in the interview, selection and hiring of qualified candidates. Evaluates employee performance. Completes annual appraisals in a timely manner and provides documentation of commendations or disciplinary actions.
- Works with technician development coordinator and appropriate operations coordinators regarding technical staff orientation, development, education, training, PTCB certification and TSBP registration.
- Monitors pharmacy information systems and communicates with IR regarding problems, resolutions, and improvements. Coordinates upgrades of information systems with outside vendors and IR as needed. Processes formulary additions to pharmacy information systems, and new additions to the CDM. Assists with charge audits upon request, monitors timeliness of charges and credits and verifies accuracy when deemed necessary.
- Actively enhances personal growth, development, and management skills by review of current literature, participating in continuing educational programs, in-service and meetings. Strives to improve patient satisfaction, as measured by Press Ganey scores.
