Salaries start at $120,000+ annually.

Job Summary

The Pediatric Advanced Practice Provider (APP) works collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team with the division of Pediatric Critical Care at Children’s Medical Center (practice sites at the Dallas and Plano campuses). This position primarily functions in the Intermediate Care Unit for patients with a complex anatomy and physiology. The patients housed in the Intermediate Care Unit no longer require intensive care level support but do require more support than feasible on the general floor.

This position requires a high degree of autonomy, critical thinking, and clinical expertise in working with complex and critically ill pediatric patients. The APP is responsible for the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, education, consultation, and health promotion and care coordination for patients and their families.

Experience and Education

Required

Education
  • Master’s degree or higher in nursing, documentation of completion of accredited Advanced Practice Education Program. Graduate education and related Texas Board of Nursing authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population. OR
  • Graduate of a Master’s degree or higher Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) accredited Physician Assistant program.
Licenses/Certifications
  • Licensure as a Pediatric Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (CPNP-AC) by Texas State Board of Nursing. Authorization for prescriptive authority by the Texas Board of Nursing. OR
  • Certification by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) certification required. Licensed by the Texas Physician Assistant Board (PA-C). AND
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certified by the American Heart Association or Red Cross (NRP) certified by the American Academy of Pediatrics based on the UT Southwestern policy for Advanced Practice Providers.
Preferred Experience
  • One year of pediatric experience as an Advanced Practice Provider in PICU, ICU, or ER preferred.
Job Duties
  • Conducts and documents comprehensive initial and ongoing physical examinations based on age and diagnosis, including psychological status.
  • Synthesizes data and utilizes evidence to develop, implement, and evaluate the patient plan of care, including ordering and interpreting laboratory, radiology, and other diagnostic studies/results.
