Job SummaryAs a nonprofit hospice organization, our mission is rooted in dignity, compassion, and service. The Financial Counselor in Intake plays a pivotal role in:
- Ensuring patients meet Medicare Conditions of Participation and insurance requirements
- Protecting compliance standards while moving referrals efficiently
- Serving as the financial and regulatory gatekeeper during the admission process
- Supporting families by clarifying benefits and insurance eligibility during critical moments
Your work directly impacts how quickly and smoothly patients can begin receiving care.
Key ResponsibilitiesIn this highly collaborative and fast-paced onsite role, you will:
- Review and process hospice and palliative care referrals with urgency and accuracy
- Verify insurance benefits and assess Medicare/Medicaid eligibility requirements
- Interpret face-to-face requirements, benefit periods, and coverage guidelines
- Communicate clearly with referral sources, marketing, billing, and hospice leadership
- Enter and maintain accurate data in the electronic medical record system
- Evaluate referrals for ACO relationships and appropriate source designation
- Serve as a liaison between intake, billing, and operational teams
- Ensure strict confidentiality and regulatory compliance at all times
This role requires both heart and precision — someone who understands the emotional weight of hospice referrals while maintaining operational excellence.
QualificationsYou are an experienced hospice intake professional who:
- Has prior hospice intake or medical billing experience (required)
- Understands Medicare Conditions of Participation and Hospice Eligibility Guidelines
- Thrives in a structured, compliance-driven environment
- Works with urgency without sacrificing accuracy
- Communicates with empathy and professionalism
- Is comfortable navigating electronic medical records and billing systems (Netsmart experience preferred)
- Demonstrates strong organizational skills and critical thinking
