The Nuclear Medicine Technologist prepares and administers radiopharmaceuticals, operates imaging equipment, monitors patient safety, and ensures compliance with radiation standards while collaborating with healthcare teams.
Essential Work Functions- Educate patients about nuclear medicine procedures and address questions
- Maintain, inspect, and report malfunctions of nuclear medicine equipment, ensuring compliance with radiation safety
- Prepare and administer radiopharmaceuticals and other medications per protocols
- Monitor patients for adverse reactions, intervening as necessary
- Operate medical imaging equipment to produce images per physician orders
- Document procedure details in patient records for continuity of care and regulatory compliance
- Follow hospital safety rules and radiation safety procedures to minimize exposure
- Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of practice
- At least one year of experience as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist
- Current Texas Nuclear Medicine Technologist or Radiography license in compliance with state regulations
- Current BLS Certification (AHA/ARC)
- Current ARRT or Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist credential
- Additional certifications or licenses applicable to the position
- Critical thinking, service excellence, and strong interpersonal communication
- Competent in reading, writing, and communicating in English
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and proficiency in PC skills
- Physical Abilities – stationary position, moving equipment 50‑100 lbs, push, pull, bend
- Interpersonal Skills – effective collaboration with varied personnel, positive attitude, professionalism
- Technical/Motor Skills – fine manipulation, assist with procedures, use department equipment
- Mental Requirements – cope with frequent public contact, meet deadlines under pressure, handle irregular schedules, maintain concentration to detail
