Histopathology Tech

The Histopathology Tech performs duties within the scope of the Histopathology Tech professional certification. Collect adequate and properly labeled specimens. Properly determine current clinician orders in the computer, per Laboratory procedures. Pulling lab orders out of the computer. Process specimens for testing and/or shipment to another laboratory for testing. Maintains and ensures cleanliness of adequate stock of supplies and rotates stock as needed to ensure supplies are used according to expiration dates.

The Histopathology Tech receives specimens and accompanying request forms for any of the tests that can be performed, and checks each for proper identification. Clearly communicate the daily status and problems about the laboratory output to team members and senior management of the service. The Histopathology Tech processes laboratory specimens in accordance with VA, The Joint Commission, and the College of American Pathologists.

Requirements

• Education Requirements:
  
  (Technologists) A baccalaureate degree and successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnician or Histotechnolgist program.
• Certification Requirements: (Technologists) Certification by ASCP as a Histotechnologist (HTL) (Technicians) Certification by ASCP as a Histopathology Technician (HT). Successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnician program.
