As a Middleware Engineering Manager, you will lead a team responsible for deploying, supporting, and optimizing middleware messaging technologies across production and non‑production environments. You’ll guide technical strategy, drive operational excellence, and ensure the reliability, performance, and security of critical middleware services.
Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Execution
- Lead the installation, configuration, and lifecycle management of third‑party middleware technologies across multiple operating systems.
- Provide architectural guidance and collaborate with application development teams on the design and implementation of solutions using middleware components.
- Oversee configuration and maintenance of production, development, and test environments to ensure high availability of application services.
- Direct the creation of automation scripts and pipelines using tools such as Jenkins and Ansible.
- Ensure performance tuning and optimization of middleware services.
- Design and maintain disaster recovery and business continuity solutions for middleware platforms.
- Ensure secure implementation of middleware technologies in alignment with security best practices.
- Advise leadership on middleware technology trends, tools, and best‑practice product selections.
Operations & Support
- Guide the team in diagnosing and resolving complex configuration and support issues across environments.
- Ensure creation and maintenance of operational runbooks, procedural guides, and troubleshooting documentation.
- Own the successful delivery of highly complex initiatives impacting cross‑functional systems.
Team Management
- Manage day‑to‑day activities of the middleware engineering team.
- Coach, mentor, and develop team members to build strong technical and problem‑solving capabilities.
Minimum Qualifications
- 7+ years of relevant technical experience, including hands‑on people management.
- Excellent critical thinking, decision‑making, and problem‑solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple tasks, and remain effective under pressure.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
- Proven experience working in crisis or high‑severity operational situations.
Technical Skills
Required:
- Systems administration and change management practices
- J2EE application services
- Message‑oriented middleware
- Internet and web technologies
- Scripting and coding (any major scripting language)
- Network technologies
- CI/CD tools and pipelines
- File transfer protocols (e.g., SFTP)
- Encryption technologies (SSL/TLS, PKI management)
- Security controls in software environments
Preferred Qualifications
- Certifications such as:
- AWS Solutions Architect
