Platform Automation Engineer - (Python, Kubernetes, AWS) - Hybrid in Plano, TX - W2 Contract-to-Hire
Optomi, in partnership with a leading global provider of automotive financing, leasing, and insurance services, is seeking a Platform Automation Engineer to fulfill a contract-to-hire opportunity for a client based in Plano, TX.
This role will design and build Python-driven automation and lightweight internal tooling that abstracts Kubernetes complexity away from application teams. The goal is simple: developers should focus on their applications not on kubectl commands, jump boxes, or infrastructure tickets.
This position reports directly to the hiring manager and will be part of a foundational team responsible for defining how Kubernetes platforms are operated, secured, observed, and scaled.
What the Right Professional Will Enjoy!- Building a platform from the ground up, with real ownership and architectural influence
- Removing manual, error‑prone Kubernetes processes through automation
- Designing internal tooling and UI‑based workflows that developers actually want to use
- Working on EKS Auto Mode and autoscaling strategies to simplify patching and cluster operations
- Translating complex infrastructure workflows into clean, repeatable Python automation
- Partnering closely with application teams, SREs, and platform engineers to improve developer experience
- Seeing immediate impact as automation replaces hours of manual effort with minutes of execution
- Strong Python development experience, particularly for automation and platform tooling
- Solid understanding of Kubernetes fundamentals, including name spaces, services, deployments, and cluster behavior
- Hands‑on experience with Amazon EKS, including managed node groups and cluster operations
- Experience interacting with infrastructure via APIs rather than manual CLI‑driven workflows
- Familiarity with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code concepts (modules, state, environments)
- Comfort working in AWS environments, including IAM, networking, and compute services
- Experience integrating observability and alerting tools (e.g., Dynatrace, logging pipelines) into automated workflows
- Ability to think like a platform owner—designing systems that are reliable, secure, and scalable
