Java Developer: AWS migration - Dallas, TX - On-Site Role (5 days a week) - 3-Year Engagement

ABOUT

THE ROLE

Our client has launched a large-scale, multi-year initiative to migrate approximately 400 enterprise applications to Amazon Web Services (AWS). We are seeking experienced Java Developers with hands-on experience supporting cloud migrations and modernizations across complex enterprise environments within AWS (or Azure). This fully onsite role in Dallas will embed you with the client’s engineering teams throughout all phases of the migration lifecycle, including assessment, discovery, and technical implementation.

You will play a key role in migrating both legacy and modern applications, developing and optimizing cloud-native components, managing observability and security tools, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. This is an opportunity to work on a high-impact project, collaborating with cross-functional teams and leveraging the latest cloud and Dev Ops technologies.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Support the migration of legacy and modern applications from on-premises environments to AWS
  • Develop, maintain, and optimize cloud-native and cloud-compatible Java application components
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams—including architecture, security, networking, and application owners—to drive successful migration activities
  • Participate in assessment, discovery, and mapping sessions to understand application dependencies, integration points, and technical requirements
  • Set up and manage observability tools such as Cloud Watch, Prometheus, Grafana, and Datadog
  • Implement centralized logging and distributed tracing using AWS Open Search, Cloud Watch Logs, and AWS X-Ray
  • Enforce security standards aligned with the AWS Well-Architected Framework
  • Manage IAM roles, policies, secrets (AWS Secrets Manager, Parameter Store), and network security configurations
  • Collaborate with security teams to support compliance frameworks including NIST, ISO, CIS, and SOC
  • Utilize Dev Ops tools (Git, Jenkins, Git Hub Actions, Code Pipeline) for CI/CD and automation
  • Work with containers (Docker, ECS, EKS) and serverless technologies (Lambda) as needed
  • Ensure strong application integration, API, middleware, and system dependency management
  • Communicate effectively with end users, project managers, and technical leadership
  • Work independently onsite and within a structured project environment
  • Demonstrate proactive problem-solving and issue resolution skills
WHAT YOU BRING
  • 5+ years of experience migrating applications to AWS outposts; familiarity with Gen AI technologies for rapid migration
  • Hands-on experience with AWS (preferred) or Azure cloud services
  • Prior exposure to enterprise-scale cloud migrations, modernization, or transformation programs
  • Proficiency in at least one programming/scripting language (e.g., Python, J2EE, Java, Node.js, .NET)
  • Strong understanding of application integrations, APIs, middleware, and system dependencies
  • Experience with containers (Docker, ECS, EKS) or serverless (Lambda) is a plus
  • Experience with Dev Ops tools (Git, Jenkins, Git Hub Actions, Code Pipeline, or similar)
  • AWS Certified Dev Ops Engineer
  • Knowledge of relational and No

    SQL databases and migration patterns
  • Solid grasp of cloud networking, IAM, and security principles
  • Experience setting up observability tools (Cloud Watch, Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog)
  • Experience implementing centralized logging and distributed tracing (AWS Open Search, Cloud Watch Logs, AWS X-Ray)
  • Ability to enforce security standards aligned with AWS Well-Architected Framework
  • Experience managing IAM roles, policies, secrets, and network security configurations
  • Familiarity with compliance frameworks (NIST, ISO, CIS, SOC)
  • Strong communication skills for collaboration with end users, PMs, and technical leadership
  • Ability to work independently onsite and within a structured project environment
  • Proven problem-solving skills and proactive approach to issue resolution
