Our client is a boutique precision marketing agency delivering brand strategy, digital marketing, web services, and creative solutions. Through our brands, we serve businesses, economic development organizations, and government entities. Web services is central to what we do, and we are building out the management team to run it well.
Position OverviewThe Web Services Manager leads our client's web services operation, sitting alongside our Creative Services Manager and Media Services Manager on the agency’s leadership team. The role owns operational performance, security, and delivery quality across our client-facing web services, managing a team of offshore developers and freelance contractors.
We have strong developers in place. This is a management and oversight role: keeping client sites secure and running, directing the dev team, and serving as the go-to technical resource for Client Services and Creative. Web systems knowledge and strong project management skills matter more here than the ability to build.
Key Responsibilities- Project & Team Management
- Own project delivery across our web services operation: scoping, scheduling, and keeping work on track
- Manage and direct offshore developers, freelancers, and contractors day-to-day
- Review deliverables and hold the team to quality and timeline standards
- Work with Client Services to scope, estimate, and plan web projects
- Manage vendor relationships and third-party integrations
- Web Operations & Site Health
- Oversee website security, performance, hosting, and backup practices across all client accounts
- Set and maintain maintenance schedules, update protocols, and monitoring routines
- Catch and resolve performance issues, downtime risks, and security vulnerabilities before they escalates
- Maintain technical documentation, development standards, and guidelines
- Manage our web tech stack and evaluate new tools as needs arise
- Discipline Leadership
- Serve as Encore’s internal web services expert: the person the team turns to with technical questions
- Keep development standards and best practices consistent across all projects
- Apply AI and automation tools to improve delivery efficiency and output quality
- Build Encore’s web services roadmap with the CEO
- Stay current on web technology, security trends, and new tools
- Client & Internal Support
- Work with account managers to scope web projects and set realistic timelines
- Provide technical guidance in client conversations and prospect meetings when needed
- Advise on web strategy as part of broader client engagements
- Flag scope problems and technical concerns early so they don’t turn into client issues
- 5+ years in web management, digital project management, or web operations; agency or multi-client experience preferred
- Strong project management skills: running multiple concurrent projects, managing contributors, hitting deadlines, and controlling scope
- Working knowledge of web infrastructure: hosting environments, DNS, server basics, CDNs, SSL, backups, and monitoring
- Working knowledge of website security practices: update governance, access control, vulnerability management, and routine maintenance
- Familiarity with CMS platforms (Word Press, Drupal, Statamic, or similar) sufficient to direct and evaluate developer work
- Working knowledge of technical SEO, Core Web Vitals, and web performance basics
- Experience managing or coordinating developers, contractors, or offshore resources
- Can communicate technical information clearly to non-technical teammates and clients
- Strong follow-through; execution is what makes this role work
- Experience with project management tools (Asana, Monday, Click Up, or similar) preferred
- Familiarity with AI workflow tools is a plus
