Systems Engineer, Hardware Engineer
We are seeking a highly capable and technically experienced Physical Security Systems Commissioning Lead to oversee the commissioning, testing, validation, troubleshooting, and turnover of integrated security systems within mission critical data center environments. This individual will serve as the primary field-level technical lead responsible for ensuring all electronic security systems are fully operational, properly integrated, documented, and functioning in accordance with design intent, operational requirements, and commissioning standards.
The ideal candidate will possess strong hands‑on experience with enterprise video surveillance systems, access control systems, intrusion detection systems, and integrated physical security platforms within complex commercial, critical infrastructure, or data center environments. The role requires a detail-oriented professional capable of identifying deficiencies, documenting issues, coordinating corrective actions, and validating final system performance prior to operational turnover.
This position is based in the Salt Lake City, UT and Dallas, Texas area. Candidates residing locally are preferred; relocation assistance may be considered for highly qualified applicants.
Primary Responsibilities- Lead the commissioning and functional testing of integrated physical security systems within active and newly constructed data center facilities.
- Validate proper operation of access control systems, video surveillance systems, intrusion detection systems, intercoms, alarm monitoring devices, and associated networked security infrastructure.
- Conduct end-to-end operational testing of:
- Access control panels
- Card readers and biometric devices
- Door position switches and request-to-exit devices
- Locking hardware and electrified door systems
- CCTV cameras and video management systems
- Intrusion detection and alarm monitoring systems
- Integrated monitoring and notification systems
- Review commissioning documentation, drawings, device schedules, sequence of operations, and system programming to ensure field installations align with design intent.
- Identify and document deficiencies, operational failures, hardware issues, programming discrepancies, communication failures, device offline conditions, camera positioning issues, alarm reporting failures, and integration gaps.
- Develop and maintain detailed commissioning reports, punch lists, deficiency logs, and corrective action tracking documentation.
- Coordinate with security integrators, low‑voltage contractors, electricians, network teams, manufacturers, and client representatives to resolve technical issues and drive system completion.
- Verify system performance including:
- Device online status
- Alarm reporting functionality
- Camera views and analytics
- Door functionality and secure state operation
- Access permissions and credential validation
- Redundant power and backup battery operation
- Tamper and fault reporting
- Network communication and VMS integration
- Perform troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis on system failures, hardware malfunctions, software configuration issues, and field installation deficiencies.
- Ensure all testing results, screenshots, photos, and turnover documentation are complete, accurate, and organized for final client acceptance.
- Support integrated system testing and witness testing with clients, consultants, and operations personnel.
- Verify all commissioning activities are conducted in accordance with applicable life safety requirements, project standards, manufacturer recommendations, and operational best practices.
- 5–10+ years of experience in physical security systems installation, integration, commissioning, or field engineering.
