Data Engineering, Data Science Manager
Harnham is partnering with a leading financial services organization, seeking a Data Engineering Manager to join its Shared Services Engineering team. This centralized engineering group supports several business functions by delivering scalable, cross-functional technology solutions. The team focuses on improving operational efficiency, strengthening governance, and advancing strategic engineering initiatives. Key priorities include process automation, technology modernization, data management improvements, and the development of shared platforms that support business and regulatory objectives.
Responsibilities- Work closely with finance, risk, and compliance stakeholders to understand business needs and translate them into technical solutions.
- Design, develop, and deploy scalable software systems supporting financial workflows, analytics, and reporting.
- Own the full software development lifecycle, including requirements gathering, architecture design, coding, testing, UAT, and maintenance.
- Drive modernization and automation initiatives across legacy systems to improve efficiency and scalability.
- Develop data models, data pipelines, and analytics solutions ensuring strong data quality, lineage, and governance.
- Collaborate across teams to build shared services and establish best practices across engineering.
- Leverage emerging technologies and cloud platforms to enhance system capabilities and performance.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
- 8+ years of experience in data engineering with strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and system design.
- Hands‑on experience across the full development lifecycle, including ETL/ELT, CI/CD and deployment practices.
- Strong programming experience in at least one compiled language such as Java or C++.
- Full-stack development experience with modern frameworks and tools (e.g., React, Spring Boot, Dropwizard, RESTful APIs, Maven).
- Strong experience working with SQL databases, including relational and columnar systems, data modeling and database design.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to thrive in fast‑paced, global environments.
- Experience leading or managing small to mid‑sized engineering teams preferred.
- Experience in data modeling, data warehousing, and analytics solutions is highly desirable.
- Experience with in financial services, particularly supporting front‑office, finance, or accounting teams.
- Experience building and deploying solutions on cloud-based analytics platforms such as Databricks or Snowflake.
- Familiarity with data catalog tools such as Unity Catalog, Open Catalog, or Apache Polaris.
