The Ideal CandidateThe Linux Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for building, maintaining, and deploying standardized Linux images and configurations across the organization. This role supports system provisioning, OS lifecycle management, and endpoint automation using Chef, AWS Systems Manager, and other third‑party tools. The ideal candidate has hands‑on experience with deployment technologies and a strong understanding of Linux server environments and AWS hosted services.
Key Responsibilities- Develop, maintain, and deploy Linux virtual servers using Cloud Formation, Chef, systems manager, and other appropriate tools.
- Administer and support server management and patch management.
- Integrate Linux authentication and authorization with AD and Entra Identity Services.
- Manage and maintain SFTP services.
- Maintain bastion/jump servers and secure access tools.
- Administer, support, and maintain existing Linux infrastructure across multiple operating systems spanning Amazon Linux 2023, Ubuntu, Oracle Linux, and Red Hat, including AD authentication, role‑based sudo policies, sysconfig parameters, and additional system hardening configurations.
- Create and manage automated deployment workflows and post‑deployment configurations using Bash and Python scripting.
- Manage and maintain AWS cloud‑based services.
- Collaborate with IT teams to ensure consistent system configuration, application packaging, and performance.
- Troubleshoot issues during provisioning or post‑deployment phases.
- Assist in investigation of performance and configuration issues with:
Java, Apache HTTPD, Tomcat, Jetty, Nginx. - Maintain documentation for imaging processes, task sequences, automation scripts, configurations, and procedures.
- Coordinate with Security and Compliance teams on PCI, SOC2, GovRAMP, FedRAMP, and internal audit requirements.
- Assist in testing and validating new server builds, updates, and security patches.
- Participate in continuous improvement of imaging and endpoint management strategies.
- Participate in on‑call rotation for Windows, Linux, and AWS Services. Provide escalation support for critical infrastructure incidents.
- 3 years of experience in IT systems administration, desktop engineering, and endpoint management.
- Strong Linux Server experience including SSSD, sudo, Bash, DNS, Postfix, ClamAV, etc.
- Java, Tomcat, Nginx, HTTPD, Jetty, OpenMQ.
- Strong AWS service knowledge:
Cloud Formation, CDK, EC2, load balancing, networking, certificate management, WAFv2, AWS Transfer Family, Guard Duty, Cloud Watch, Open Search. - Familiarity with virtualization platforms helpful.
- Containerization tools – Docker, Kubernetes, ECS, EKS.
- Python/Bash Scripting.
Education and Experience
- CompTIA Linux or RHCSA preferred but not required.
- AWS certifications a plus.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Skilled at AWS systems management tools and patching workflows.
- Strong familiarity with Linux OS deployment, scripting, and automated configurations.
