- Must have experience managing databases across both environments today, with the ability to evolve toward a more cloud-native architecture over time.
- Strong traditional DBA skillset (despite modern tooling):
- While many databases are managed services (less focus on patching/upgrades), the team needs someone with deep foundational DBA knowledge who can operate at a low level when needed.
- Data platform engineering mindset (beyond just DBA):
- This role blends DBA + platform engineering—requires understanding how to build and support data platforms, not just maintain them.
- Acts as the primary database owner for all systems excluding SAP
- Responsible for SQL Server on Azure VM environment from Day 1
- Will support a transition from hybrid → more cloud-native architecture over time
- Expected to bridge operational DBA work with future-state data platform design
Core Environment
- SQL Server (Azure VM initially)
- Hybrid infrastructure (on-prem + cloud)
- Used for building pipelines and large-scale data extraction
- Replacing tools like Apache Airflow
- Focus is on building the platform / data layer
, not Power BI - Goal: enable end users to access data via Lakehouse architecture
- Less critical day-to-day
- Candidate should understand how it fits into the ecosystem
