Position OverviewThe Underwriting Specialist, Inland Marine will drive profitable growth with retail and wholesale brokers, collaborating with the broader Marine team.
Responsibilities- Underwrite Inland Marine within the appetite developed by our team.
- Independently select risks, evaluate, and recommend program structure, services, and pricing to achieve a balanced portfolio and long‑term profitability.
- Establish and maintain business relationships to develop new opportunities, visit insureds and brokers/producers, and support the producer and territory management plan.
- Review engineering information to assess risk quality and compliance, and initiate loss‑prevention actions.
- Adhere to CAT guidelines and underwriting discipline to minimize exposure and appropriately price.
- Manage the assigned portfolio to achieve gross written premium, profitability, rate, retention, product mix, new business, and portfolio management goals.
- Evaluate reinsurance requirements and implement appropriate action.
- Communicate and collaborate across disciplines to establish and maintain relationships for organizational and policyholder success.
- Share underwriting expertise with underwriters at all levels.

- Minimum 6 years of experience underwriting Inland Marine insurance products.
- Ability to effectively interact with all customer levels and collaborate with a team of underwriters, claims, and loss control.
- Proven marketing and negotiation skills.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and time‑management skills.
- Highly collaborative.
- Bachelor’s Degree.
The annualized base pay range for this role is $145,000 – $160,000. Actual base pay may vary based on experience, subject‑matter expertise, and skills. Other rewards may include an annual cash bonus and discretionary compensation awarded by the Company.
