JOB SUMMARY

Works under general supervision of Manager Language Services Department. At UT Southwestern Medical Center, every patient interaction is an opportunity to provide exceptional care and clear, compassionate communication is at the heart of that mission. As a language Interpreter II, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring that our Spanish‑speaking patients and their families fully understand their care, feel heard, and are empowered to make informed decision about their health.

In this role, you will provide accurate, culturally sensitive interpretation between English and Spanish in a variety of clinical and non‑clinical settings, supporting physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. You will help bridge language and cultural gaps, ensuring that every patient receives equitable, respectful, and high‑quality care.

Shift:

Training Schedule

During training, your scheduled shift will be 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Training typically lasts approximately two weeks; however, an additional one to two weeks of training may be provided on a case‑by‑case basis.

Post‑Training Schedule

Following training, your regular shift will be determined by the hiring leader based on business needs. Candidates should be prepared to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends, as needed. Employees must be available to work a minimum of three 8‑hour shifts per week.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION Required
  • Education
    Associate's Degree required with four (4) years of job‑related experience in a health care setting preferred
  • Experience
    2 years of interpretation experience with use of medical terminology and excellent customer service skills and
    Must speak, read, and write English and target language fluently
    Employment is contingent upon successfully passing the UT Southwestern Language Services language and medical terminology proficiency assessment in both English and the target language with a minimum score of 80%
  • Licenses and Certifications
    (MINC) MEDICAL INTERPRETER NATL CERT If not completed at the time of hire, the expectation is to achieve the Medical Interpretation National Certification within the first 18 months of employment
