Conflicts Counsel


A well-established law firm is seeking a Conflicts Counsel to join its team in multiple office locations. This role is essential in supporting the firm's risk management functions by identifying, mitigating, and addressing potential ethical and business conflicts of interest.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Review new business intake forms using proprietary software to ensure all relevant parties are properly identified.
  • Conduct research using internal and external databases to vet prospective clients and related parties.
  • Analyze conflicts reports to identify potential ethical and business conflicts of interest.
  • Collaborate with attorneys and business professionals to resolve conflicts by gathering and evaluating relevant information, applying professional conduct rules, and drafting conflict waivers and engagement letters.
Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree with an active license in the resident jurisdiction.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
  • Experience in a law firm environment required; knowledge of conflicts of interest principles preferred.
  • Proficiency in research tools such as Dun & Bradstreet, Lexis, Hoover's, Edgar, and Legal Key, with the ability to interpret data from these systems.
  • Strong understanding of professional conduct rules across multiple jurisdictions and ability to assess and address conflicts of interest accordingly.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with attorneys and business professionals to resolve conflicts and draft necessary waiver letters.
  • Familiarity with various legal matters, including corporate law, litigation, bankruptcy, labor & employment, tax, and estate planning, to properly identify parties and relationships in new business intake processes.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and seek input from leadership as needed.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, service orientation, and attention to detail with problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage workload effectively, both independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience with Intapp programs preferred.
Work Environment & Physical Demands:
  • Office-based role requiring regular use of standard office equipment such as computers, telephones, printers, and copiers.
  • Sedentary work with occasional walking and standing; must be able to lift or move objects up to 10 pounds.
  • Close visual acuity required for data analysis, computer work, and document review.
