- Divide marital assets, including real estate, when necessary during divorce proceedings
- Advocate on behalf of clients by understanding their needs, effectively analyzing the situation and forming a strategy for a plan of action
- Keep client files properly organized and up to date
- Ensure clients are effectively represented at court hearings as needed
- Prepare legal documents such as legal pleadings, motions, marital settlement agreements, contracts, judgments, and orders for a high volume of cases
- Represent clients in family law matters, including prenuptial and postnuptial agreements, divorce (contested and uncontested), suits affecting the parent-child relationship, child custody, visitation, child support, and property division, including real estate issues related to family law cases
- Draft, review, and file pleadings, motions, discovery, and settlement agreements
- Manage cases from intake through resolution, including mediation and trial
- Appear in court for hearings, mediations, and trials
- Communicate effectively and professionally with clients, opposing counsel, and the court
- Maintain organized case files and comply with all deadlines
- Strong knowledge base of representing plaintiffs and defendants
- 4-year degree with a legal background and J.D. degree are necessary for this position
- Member in good standing and actively involved with the ABA (American Bar Association)
- Must have worked on family law issues for at least 1-2 years; handling of real estate also required
- Previous criminal justice or other legal background preferred
Licensed and in good standing with the Texas Bar
Minimum of 2-5 years of family law experience required
Strong knowledge of the Texas Family Code and civil procedure
Proven record of success both in and out of court
Excellent legal writing, negotiation, and advocacy skills
Ability to manage a caseload independently while working collaboratively with a team
Strong client-centered approach and emotional intelligence
