POSITION SUMMARY
This position directs the operations of a major division within a large advanced wastewater treatment plant through subordinate supervisors. This involves the supervision and training of a large group of employees. Responsible for meeting all local, state and federal permits, and operating within the budget that has been appropriated for the Division.
- SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Regularly has full personnel management responsibilities including approving time, selection, discipline, grievances and formal performance evaluations for a position’s direct and indirect reports. - FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY:
Divisional responsibility of budget development and expenditure oversight including purchase request approval and cost controls.
Bachelor’s degree preferred. Equivalent education, licensing, and experience to efficiently perform the duties and responsibilities of the position may be considered in lieu of a Bachelor’s Degree.
ExperienceSix years of experience and three of the six in a supervisory capacity, or eight years at an advanced wastewater treatment plant with supervisory experience, or ten years of experience in a similarly related process in another field.
Licenses, Certificates, and RegistrationsValid Texas driver’s license. Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (or predecessor agency), Class B Wastewater Operator’s Certificate of Competency required. Class A Certificate required (within 2 years of position acceptance).
KnowledgeMust have a thorough knowledge of primary, secondary and tertiary treatment, solids handling, disposal, conditioning and incineration at a large, advanced wastewater treatment plant.
Skills and AbilitiesMust possess supervisory ability and managerial talents. Requires a high level of mental attentiveness, patience and persistence with a high degree of concentration.
Guidance ReceivedGuided by priorities and policies guided primarily by established priorities and policies, along with professional standards and best practices to guide decisions and any direction or advice given to others. Typically makes recommendations to managers on policy and process improvements after considering/analyzing various alternatives. Proactively addresses needed changes to policies, methods and procedures and obtains approval.
Working ConditionsWorking conditions include exposure to weather, odor, gases, chemical hazards and dust.
Tools and EquipmentAll types of electronic, mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic equipment used to operate and control plant process, small hand tools, meters, technical equipment, office equipment, and vehicle.
