The Opportunity:

As the VP, Underwriting, you will lead and develop a high-performing team of Underwriting Managers and Underwriters across the United States and Canada, driving consistent credit quality, operational excellence, and scalable growth. You will serve as the subject matter expert in Transportation Factoring, bringing deep underwriting expertise to shape underwriting strategy, refine risk frameworks, and champion technology and process improvements that position eCapital for continued market leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

Team Leadership & Development
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of Underwriting Managers and Underwriters.
  • Oversee hiring, performance management, and professional development.
  • Set clear performance expectations and conduct regular reviews, ensuring team members have the tools, training, and feedback needed to succeed.
  • Serve as an escalation point for complex or high-value decisions, providing mentorship and guidance to underwriting staff.
Underwriting Risk Management
  • Maintain and continuously improve the underwriting risk framework, ensuring consistent application of credit policies across the team.
  • Monitor portfolio performance, identifying trends, concentrations, and emerging risks, and communicate findings to senior leadership.
  • Partner with senior management on strategic underwriting initiatives, policy updates, and risk appetite calibration.
  • Implement and maintain risk controls across the underwriting function, ensuring adherence to internal policies and proactive identification of control gaps or weaknesses.
Process & Technology Advancement
  • Lead efforts to evaluate, implement, and optimize underwriting tools, systems, and technologies that improve efficiency, consistency, and scalability.
  • Collaborate with IT, Operations, and product teams on system enhancements and the deployment of new underwriting capabilities.
  • Identify process inefficiencies and drive continuous improvement initiatives, ensuring all changes are documented and maintained within standard operating procedures.
  • Stay current on industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging technologies relevant to factoring and commercial lending.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Work closely with Sales, Operations, and senior management to support business development, client onboarding, and portfolio management objectives.
  • Coordinate with third parties including field examination firms, outside counsel, partner lenders, and industry consultants as needed, bringing in senior management at the appropriate time.
  • Review and provide guidance on legal documentation related to new and existing facilities, including factoring agreements, subordination agreements, intercreditor agreements, and other transaction-specific documents, coordinating with outside counsel where appropriate.
  • Other duties as assigned by direct, department, or division leadership.
Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum 10 years of underwriting experience in commercial finance, with significant depth in Transportation Factoring highly preferred.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of people management experience, with a track record of building, leading, and developing high-performing teams.
  • Deep knowledge of factoring structures, collateral analysis and risk assessment in the transportation sector.
  • High level of familiarity with legal documentation specific to factoring facilities, including factoring agreements, subordination agreements, intercreditor agreements, and related instruments.
