Position Summary

Under the direction of the General Manager, the Operations Manager is responsible for day-to-day site operations, supervising warehousing, receiving, and shipping of products while meeting company service and cost objectives. Responsibilities include planning inbound/outbound volume, customer communication, space utilization, and equipment management. People management duties involve hiring, training, labor planning, performance appraisals, and problem resolution.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement systems and procedures for managing operations, equipment, and products safely and profitably.
  • Manage operations to meet productivity and service goals and comply with client SLAs.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives and propose cost‑saving measures.
  • Meet all client‑specified KPIs and comply with the quality system.
  • Apply sound communication and motivation techniques to supervise fairly, counsel, and discipline team members.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources to create hiring, training, and development programs and participate in performance evaluation.
  • Deliver results by leveraging the right people at the right time.
  • Keep senior management and client representatives informed of critical operational issues.
  • Plan daily work schedules by reviewing work orders, arrival notices, and customer instructions.
  • Analyze volume demands to re‑organise warehouse space and adjust supplies, equipment, or staffing.
  • Ensure effective training delivery and adherence to SOPs.
  • Assess trainee progress to determine new‑hire performance and cultural fit.
  • Maintain high motivation to provide excellent customer satisfaction.
  • Provide ongoing growth opportunities for team members.
  • Support adherence to standard operating procedures.
  • Conduct routine staff meetings to review daily and weekly activities.
Management Information Systems
  • Ensure team members are trained and efficient in required information systems, including WMS.
  • Ensure necessary software and hardware are purchased in compliance with Corporate IT policies.
  • Stay current on changes in hardware and software technology.
  • Develop proficiency in client systems.
Customer Management
  • Maintain high level of customer service for all functions.
  • Provide required operational and administrative support to client accounts.
  • Maintain appropriate contact with all functions and respond to requests.
  • Lead meetings with key customers on operational issues.
  • Coordinate management of supplier/customer visits.
  • Promote positive client relationships through excellent service.
Budgeting and Financials
  • Support development of the annual operating budget.
  • Develop and manage control systems to ensure service levels and performance goals are met within cost, revenue, and profit parameters.
  • Assist in ensuring budgeting and pricing activities comply with contract guidelines.
Equipment and Facilities
  • Manage programs for sanitation, maintenance, security, housekeeping, safety, and equipment upkeep.
  • Ensure team members are trained on material handling equipment.
  • Stay informed of new technology and recommend applicability.
Safety
  • Achieve company injury statistics and other safety metrics by cultivating a proactive safety culture.
  • Audit warehouse for compliance with safety, security, and quality principles.
  • Ensure statutory health and safety requirements are met.
Other Duties
  • Work overtime as business requires, whether mandatory or voluntary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Manage warehouse operations supervisors and support staff.
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum 7 years in logistics/distribution or a related environment.
  • Minimum 5 years in a supervisory role.
  • Work in unregulated temperature conditions within mild to moderate range.
Computer Skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge of applicable WMS systems.
Language Skills
  • Strong business communication at all levels.
