Overview

The incumbent supports the delivery of the Regulatory Relations Group (RRG) mandate in the United States and is responsible for managing and supporting supervisory interactions, including exam management, continuous monitoring, and senior management discussions with supervisors. The role works with senior stakeholders in the three lines of defense, including bank management and governance committees, to provide advice and guidance to business unit and control function management on regulatory interactions.

It also oversees remediation commitments made to regulators and prepares and delivers formal responses to regulatory letters.

The role assists in developing and executing the RRG strategy to address heightened regulatory expectations and enhance regulatory transparency.

Accountabilities
  • Champions a customer‑focused culture to deepen regulatory relationships while leveraging broader bank relationships, systems, and knowledge. Manages coordination of interactions with U.S. regulators, including but not limited to exam and supervisory activities.
  • Provides oversight for regulatory examinations and supervisory interactions and serves as the central contact for regulators conducting supervisory activity for Scotiabank U.S.
  • Manages and coordinates events related to examinations and continuous monitoring, negotiates scope and timing of reviews, monitors progress, supports the delivery of requested information, and attends regulatory meetings with control functions and business unit personnel.
  • Leads and drives a high‑performing team, facilitating effective and transparent communication with supervisors.
  • Builds relationships with U.S. business and control function heads to provide guidance on regulatory matters and support their regulatory interactions.
  • Oversees development and presentation of regulatory responses and reports to senior management and committees.
  • Provides oversight, monitoring, and tracking of remediation commitments made by Scotiabank to regulators and assists with regulatory governance forums.
  • Oversees centralized issue‑management systems and repositories for documents, examination memos, and reports.
  • Identifies risks arising from regulator interactions and escalates them appropriately.
  • Coordinates the bank’s preparedness for new regulatory mandates as required.
  • Ensures that the bank’s risk appetite and risk culture are considered in day‑to‑day activities and decisions.
  • Ensures day‑to‑day business controls, including operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk, and conduct risk, are adequate and effective under applicable frameworks.
  • Champions a high‑performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops, and motivates the team, fostering an inclusive work environment.

Education / Experience / Other Information
  • Bachelor’s degree;
    Master’s, MBA, or JD is a plus.
  • Ten or more years of progressive, senior‑level experience at a prudential regulatory agency, financial services firm, consulting firm, or a similar position in the financial services industry.
  • In‑depth understanding of financial markets, products, and control functions.
  • Excellent written and oral communication, with strong presentation and interpersonal skills for guiding internal and external partners.
  • Strong planning and organization skills with the ability to multitask and manage changing priorities.
  • Ability to work independently with both regulatory staff and senior bank personnel.
  • Prior experience managing a team of professionals.
  • Proficiency with MS PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
Working Conditions

Standard office‑based environment; non‑standard hours are common. Workload is demanding with frequent time pressure and deadlines, requiring continual prioritization of incoming requests.
