Job Summary

The Supervisor-Water Distribution Field Operations supervises, leads, and monitors water distribution, maintenance, and operational efficiency for the Dallas Water Utility. Supervises staff and oversees professional service to customers ensuring effective water distribution.

Essential Functions

Directs staff within the Water Distribution Field Operations, as well as other divisions as needed during emergencies.

Assigns, monitors, and reviews workers’ equipment, facilities, materials, and tools based on short‑term priorities and provides technical direction as needed.

Provides day‑to‑day operational decisions.

Adheres to work priorities, project schedules, resources, and detailed work plans established by higher level supervisors/managers.

Exercises limited latitude in adjusting work schedules or work priorities.

Provides instructions, training, and guidance to operations staff to develop operating strategies necessary to meet operational goals.

Inspects completed work and work in progress for quality and evaluates work performance of employees.

Is responsible for hiring or termination decisions, layoffs, promotions, or other personnel activities.

Formulates methods to improve production.

Orders necessary materials and equipment.

Plans, coordinates, and inspects all reservoirs and water tower yearly.

Coordinates daily with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to properly manage lake releases.

Communicates daily with Customer Cities to ensure seamless drinking water delivery.

Works with ONCOR and AT&T to coordinate and properly supervise pump station power outages, communication failures, and other issues to continue to supply water.

Supervises Confine Space projects and annually Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) regulatory inspections for reservoirs and Elevated Storage Tanks.

Provides leadership, expertise, and direction in the water distribution activities.

Performs any and all other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of Water and Wastewater systems and general equipment and meters.
Knowledge, use, and care of hand and power tools.
Knowledge of water and wastewater mains and facilities.
Ability to prioritize work, provide training, and facilitate efficient service delivery.
Ability to follow and give oral and written instructions and read charts and maintain written records.
Ability to participate in budget development, procurement activities, and inventory management.
Ability to perform math calculations.
Ability to perform a variety of manual labor for extended periods.
Ability to lift and work with heavy equipment.
Ability to maintain record keeping or work log system.
Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED.

Experience

Five (5) years of experience in any of the following Water/Wastewater/Stormwater areas:
Construction, Engineering, Operations, Maintenance.
One (1) year of experience with lead work/supervisory responsibilities (This experience may be included in the required experience listed above).

License

Valid driver's license with good driving record.
TCEQ Class B (or higher) Surface Water License.

Other Requirements

May require varying shifts including nights, weekends and/or holidays.
May be subject to twenty-four/seven (24/7) call‑out.

Salary Range: $57,096.00 - $67,766.40. The salary listed on this job posting is the starting salary range; amount offered will depend upon qualifications.
