JOB DESCRIPTION
The GES Senior Manager oversees a team of professionals supporting clients in managing global payroll liabilities, minimizing compliance risks, and identifying and recovering overpaid global payroll. The role includes reviewing written global payroll advice to clients, evaluating action options to lessen global payroll burden and cost of compliance, and identifying potential changes in global payroll policy and regulations. The Senior Manager collaborates with Core Tax Principals and Directors to provide global payroll expertise to clients and oversees key metrics and group performance.
Job Summary
The GES Senior Manager is responsible for leading a team to deliver global payroll services, advise clients on global payroll issues, and contribute to business development within their area of experience and for GES overall. The role also involves recognizing potential changes in tax policy and applying new policies to tax compliance, and working with the Core Tax Principals and Directors to provide global payroll expertise to clients.
Job Duties- Research
- Identifies situations requiring research and reviews staff written investigations on identified topics
- Analyzes researched facts and the sources used
- Prepares studies of global payroll implications and outlines alternative courses of action for clients
- Partners with other Core Tax and Specialized Tax Services professionals to resolve complex matters
- Tax Compliance
- Ensures clients comply with applicable authorities while identifying options to manage global payroll and reporting burdens
- Manages engagements to ensure engagement metrics are achieved
- Collaborates with Business Development and other strategic parties to drive global payroll compliance offerings
- Tax Consulting
- Oversees staff handling inquiries from federal and state agencies regarding global payroll issues
- Reviews responses to examiner questions and challenges
- Monitors implementations of work plans for global payroll projects
- Provides solutions by combining global payroll knowledge with business/industry knowledge
- Tax Controversy
- Represents clients before global payroll authorities on contested issues
- Responds to questions from federal or state agencies
- Coordinates responses to questions from global taxing authorities
- Tax Specialization
- Acts as an industry expert in Global Payroll Services
- Identifies cross-selling opportunities with other tax specializations
- Manages Global Payroll Services provided to assigned clients
- Develops tools and improvements to enhance Global Payroll Services
- Strategy Development
- Develops ideas to advance clients, the firm, or personnel through global payroll management
- Participates in relevant industry groups
- Leads marketing campaigns and external Global Payroll Services initiatives
- Reviews payroll-related templates and process flows for global use
- Directs the day-to-day workload of tax GES Managers, Senior Associates, and Associates on engagements and reviews work product
- Ensures tax GES Managers, Senior Associates, Associates, and Interns are trained on relevant tax software
- Evaluates performance and assists in setting goals and professional development
- Delivers performance feedback and completes performance evaluations for tax GES staff
- Acts as Career Advisor to tax GES staff as appropriate
- Bachelor’s degree required; focus in Accounting, Finance, or Business preferred
- Master’s degree in Accounting, Taxation, or Business preferred
- Juris Doctorate preferred
- Eight (8) or more years of prior experience in employment tax, required
- Experience supervising employment tax professionals on projects or engagements, required
- Experience with corporate taxation preferred
- CPA certification or Enrolled Agent certification preferred
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel and Word) preferred
- Exposure to global payroll applications and research tools preferred

- Solid organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines
- Ability to multi-task and work independently or in a team
- Ability to manage a team of tax professionals and delegate work
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and client personnel
- Executive presence and ability to act as primary contact on engagements
- Ability to interact with professionals at all levels
- Advanced knowledge of tax standards and relevant information sources
