Position: Hospital Construction Project Manager with MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing)

Job Summary

UT Southwestern is actively seeking an experienced Hospital Construction Project Manager with strong MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) expertise to lead complex healthcare construction projects from planning through commissioning. The Project Manager will coordinate architects, engineers, contractors, and hospital stakeholders; manage budgets, schedules, procurement, and design reviews; and drive technical oversight of submittals, drawings, and field installation. This role oversees critical mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems—including HVAC, power, medical gases, life safety, and related infrastructure—ensuring all work meets strict healthcare codes and operational requirements.

Work under the general direction of the Director of Renovation Program to provide Project Management services for renovation projects up to $4M and occasionally higher value projects.

Responsibilities
  • Overall project management including scope definition, budgets, change orders, schedule, contractor GMPs, contract management and quality control in compliance with industry and institutional standards.
  • Strong organizational skills for managing multiple projects and compiling project data.
  • Strong written and verbal skills for project reporting to Executive leadership.
  • Manage less complex major capital projects up to $4M and occasionally projects of greater value.
  • Ensure projects are successfully completed on schedule, within approval budget, and in accordance with applicable quality standards.
  • Guide and manage the Project Team (customers, General Contractor/Construction Manager, Consultants, CIP Construction Services internal resources, and Facilities Management groups) to yield productive actions and ensure successful completion.
  • Manage A/E teams, construction teams, internal and external project management teams, internal teams, third‑party consultants, etc. to ensure compliance with design specifications, schedules, and contractual commitments.
  • Manage contractual compliance and relationships for the assigned projects.
  • Define and implement contractual and financial strategies.
  • Coordinate approval procedures with the BOR, THECB and associated State Agencies.
  • Work collaboratively with Purchasing to prepare necessary documentation for contract award.
  • Support the ROCIP and HUB program on the selected projects.
  • Develop and manage project documentation, record keeping, financial and activity status reports that are accurate, up‑to‑date, clear and complete.
  • Ensure project documentation records are organized and stored properly.
  • Ensure compliance with, and adherence to, current institutional and industry standards.
  • Close out projects to ensure documents are uploaded to eBuilder and properly issued to Facilities Management.
  • Monitor the status of project permits and inspections to ensure completion and proper documentation.
  • Address and manage critical issues impacting project quality and safety.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership in managing all consultants, contractors, and project teams internal and external.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Experience and Education
  • Experience:

    4 years of project management/construction experience with a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent industry related experience and knowledge without a degree).
Preferred Experience and Education
  • Education:

    Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Engineering, or Construction Management.
  • Experience:

    Design and construction experience with academic healthcare and/or research facilities, and/or project management/construction management experience with a focus on healthcare, academic, and/or research facilities.
Work Location

Dallas Campus; onsite 100% of time. May require travel to and from other UTSW facilities throughout the DFW metro area.

Shift

Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
