Salary Range: $140,000–$165,000

About The Opportunity

A nationally recognized, employee-owned engineering and building consulting firm is seeking a hands-on, entrepreneurial Licensed Architect to lead its Building Envelope Restoration practice. This is a technical leadership role for an experienced professional who enjoys developing teams while remaining actively involved in project execution.

As the Director of Operations, you will oversee project delivery, team performance, business operations, and strategic growth while continuing to contribute directly to investigations, rehabilitation design, repair strategies, and modernization projects for existing buildings. This role is focused exclusively on existing building rehabilitation and restoration, not new construction design.

You will serve as both a business leader and technical advisor, guiding project teams, developing client relationships, mentoring staff, and helping drive the continued growth of the practice.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing technical team.
  • Conduct one-on-one meetings, performance reviews, and professional development planning.
  • Serve as a technical resource while remaining actively involved in project execution.
  • Foster a collaborative, accountable, and growth-oriented team culture.
Operations & Project Delivery
  • Lead and contribute to projects involving existing building investigations, repair strategies, rehabilitation, restoration, and modernization.
  • Manage projects ranging from rapid assessments to large, complex assignments.
  • Coordinate staffing and resources to achieve utilization and revenue goals.
  • Review technical deliverables to ensure quality, consistency, and schedule adherence.
  • Support proposal development through technical expertise and staffing recommendations.
  • Maintain strong client relationships on complex or high-profile projects.
  • Oversee invoicing and project-related operational responsibilities.
Strategy & Business Leadership
  • Develop and strengthen relationships with clients and industry partners.
  • Identify opportunities for business growth, service expansion, and operational improvements.
  • Monitor market trends and client needs to help shape strategic initiatives.
  • Participate in forecasting, revenue planning, resource allocation, and departmental performance tracking.
  • Support annual business planning, including staffing, training, growth initiatives, and revenue goals.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Active Architect license required.
  • 8+ years of experience in architecture, engineering, construction management, forensic consulting, rehabilitation, restoration, or existing building consulting.
  • 2+ years of leadership experience with team management, business development, operational oversight, and revenue accountability.
  • Strong understanding of building structures, building envelope systems, restoration, rehabilitation, and existing building construction.
  • Demonstrated success mentoring and developing technical teams.
  • Strong financial, project management, and operational planning skills.
  • Excellent relationship-building and client communication abilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
