The Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) Manager is responsible for the strategic leadership, operational management, governance, implementation, and support of laboratory information systems that enable Clinical Pathology, Anatomic Pathology, Blood Bank, and related laboratory services. This leadership role ensures the effective delivery, optimization, and compliance of laboratory technology solutions that support high-quality patient care, operational excellence, and organizational objectives.
The Manager serves as the primary liaison between Information Resources (IR), Laboratory Services, Pathology Leadership, clinical and operational departments, executive stakeholders, and technology vendors. The role requires strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and the ability to manage complex initiatives in a highly regulated healthcare environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES- Provide strategic direction and operational oversight for all Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and related applications.
- Lead the planning, implementation, optimization, and maintenance of laboratory technology solutions supporting Clinical Pathology, Anatomic Pathology, Blood Bank, and outreach laboratory operations.
- Establish and oversee governance processes, prioritization frameworks, and project portfolios related to LIS initiatives.
- Partner with laboratory leadership, pathologists, clinicians, and operational stakeholders to identify technology needs and implement effective solutions.
- Ensure system reliability, performance, availability, security, and scalability across laboratory applications.
- Direct and manage complex projects, including system upgrades, implementations, integrations, workflow enhancements, and regulatory initiatives.
- Oversee vendor relationships, contract performance, and service delivery to ensure organizational expectations are met.
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory and accreditation standards, including CAP, CLIA, FDA, HIPAA, and other healthcare requirements.
- Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and standards related to laboratory information systems and data management.
- Lead risk assessment, change management, testing, validation, and issue resolution processes for laboratory technology systems.
- Monitor key performance indicators and drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and user satisfaction.
- Manage, mentor, and develop LIS team members while fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and innovation.

- Education
High School Diploma or equivalent or
Bachelor's Degree with major coursework in computer science, math, information systems, or other related field - Experience
8 years progressively responsible and applicable information technology experience with High School Diploma including 2 years in supervisory or managerial role or
6 years progressively responsible information technology experience with Bachelor's Degree including 2 years in supervisory or managerial role
- Manages Information Resources section, such as Network Services, Software Systems Programming, Computer Training, etc. following university policies and procedures and using effective management, communication, and customer service skills to develop and ensure effective program.
- Develops, revises, recommends, and interprets policies and procedures for section to ensure all applicable laws and governmental guidelines are followed and that employees are treated in equitable manner.
- Coordinates various projects and programs for section ensuring all tasks are completed by established deadlines and to ensure that quality customer service is provided for faculty and staff.
