Reports to: Plant Supervisor
GENERAL PURPOSEOperates a multi‑needle quilting machine and other equipment in order to efficiently produce quilted mattress panels per quality and quantity requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Sets up the machine through loading and reloading of backing and adjusting needle positioning and patterns
- Operates computer related to quilting function
- Operates the on‑board computer of the quilting machine
- Cuts material when specified yardage has been quilted, straightens edges of material layers and regulates tension on material or thread
- Observes material sewn to detect broken threads, uneven edges or wrinkles, and defective stitching or stitch design
- Monitors machine (visual & audio) and makes adjustments in order to prevent skipping and/or creating scrap
- Touches needles to detect rough places and smooths rough area using a buffer
- Measures and sets panel cutting blades, and adjusts panel cutting machine as needed
- Measures and inspects finished panel (within specifications)
- Repairs defective panels using a straight stitch sewing machine and/or other established processes
- Performs routine maintenance on machine such as lubricating machinery
- Troubleshoots minor malfunctions and performs routine repairs as needed
- Performs changeovers as necessary
- Completes documents (e.g., transition lengths) necessary for process
- Must be able to meet production goals according to established guidelines
- Performs other duties as designated by a supervisor or manager
- Must be willing to cross‑train across multiple jobs and/or departments
- Position is highly repetitive
- Must be able to bend, stoop, and reach to pick up panels repeatedly throughout shift
- Must be able to lift 80‑pound rolls of raw materials
- Must be able to stand and walk on concrete floors for a minimum of 8 hours per shift
- Must be able to walk between and around machines for a minimum of 8 hours per shift
- Must be able to reach above head to remove panels from cutting device if stuck
- Ability to work and adapt to a changing work environment (e.g., hot, cold, noisy, and odor‑filled)
- Must be able to wear safety glasses
- Minimum 18 years of age
- Basic English reading/writing skills required
- High school graduate or equivalent preferred
- Previous experience in a factory/warehouse setting highly desirable
- Take initiative, multi‑task, and work independently and as part of a team
- Ability and willingness to work safely
- Maintains work area safe and clean
- Willing to participate in CI activities if needed
- Willing to work overtime as required
- Work experience with computerized machinery and/or in a manufacturing environment preferred
- Must be able to read a tape measure
- Mechanically inclined is a plus
