Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Set up and operate mechanical shear machines safely and efficiently.
  • Read and interpret cut lists, blueprints, and engineering drawings.
  • Identify sheet metal types, finishes, and gauges accurately.
  • Optimize material usage to minimize waste and maximize yield.
  • Safely operate overhead cranes and forklifts to handle sheet metal.
  • Perform first‑article inspections and verify dimensions using tape measures and calipers.
  • Organize completed parts by work order and routing.
  • Accurately charge time to work orders and maintain paperwork accountability.
  • Report daily production rates and setup changes.
Quality & Documentation
  • Conduct in‑process quality checks for edge finish and dimensional accuracy.
  • Document completion of parts and work orders.
  • Communicate with leadmen and engineering regarding setup issues or missing parts.
  • Review and update machine set up docs.
Maintenance & Safety
  • Perform daily and weekly preventative maintenance on shear equipment.
  • Monitor blade condition and machine performance.
  • Maintain clean and organized work area.
  • Adhere to all safety and environmental protocols.
Teamwork & Continuous Improvement
  • Participate in team meetings focused on workflow, safety, and production goals.
  • Assist in training and mentoring junior operators.
  • Support cross‑functional initiatives to reduce lead time and improve quality.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Position Requirements :
  • High school diploma or equivalent work experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Knowledge of basic shop math and measurement principles.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
  • Physically able to lift top 50 lbs and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Willingness to cross train in other machine operator roles.
  • Willingness to work flexible shifts and overtime as needed.
  • Preferred:
  • Experience with Cincinnati shear equipment.
  • Ability to perform basic program adjustments.
  • Basic understanding of 6S and Lean principles.
  • Knowledge of other fabrication equipment (e.g. shears, press brakes, lasers).
  • Minimum 1 year of hands‑on machine operator experience preferred.
  • Experience with overhead crane and sit‑down forklift operation.
