Manufacturing Engineer
We are looking to hire a Manufacturing Engineer immediately to work for a leading manufacturer of custom build control and power industrial equipment. The candidate will support production operations by designing tools and fixtures, optimizing manufacturing processes, and ensuring a smooth and efficient production flow. This position suits an engineer who enjoys hands-on problem-solving, 3D CAD design, and driving continuous improvement initiatives directly on the shop floor while collaborating closely with production and maintenance teams.
Responsibilities
- Design and optimize production flow, tools, jigs, and fixtures using 3D CAD software such as AutoCAD, Inventor, Solid Works, NX, or equivalent applications.
- Develop and maintain accurate engineering documentation, including detailed drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), and clear assembly instructions.
- Collaborate with production and maintenance teams to prototype, test, and implement tooling and process solutions that support efficient manufacturing.
- Identify, plan, and execute process improvement projects to increase throughput, reduce waste, and enhance product quality.
- Provide hands-on technical support to production teams by troubleshooting manufacturing issues and implementing effective solutions.
- Participate in root cause analysis activities and implement corrective and preventive actions to address recurring problems.
- Support new product introduction (NPI) by developing tooling, fixtures, and manufacturing processes for new parts and assemblies.
- Assist in maintaining and improving process documentation, work instructions, and standard operating procedures to ensure consistency and clarity.
- Apply knowledge of manufacturing processes such as machining, assembly, sheet metal, and composites when designing and improving production methods.
- Incorporate design for manufacturability (DFM), design for assembly (DFA), and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) principles into engineering solutions.
Essential Skills
- At least 2 years of experience working as a manufacturing or mechanical engineer.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD design and drafting using tools such as AutoCAD, Inventor, Solid Works, NX, or similar software.
- Experience in manufacturing engineering, including exposure to production environments and shop floor activities.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes such as machining, assembly, sheet metal fabrication, and composite manufacturing.
- Ability to design and optimize fixtures and jigs for manufacturing applications.
- Knowledge of CNC machines and CNC programming in a production setting.
- Familiarity with Lean manufacturing principles, process optimization, and continuous improvement tools.
- Understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), design for manufacturability (DFM), and design for assembly (DFA).
- Ability to create and maintain detailed process documentation, work instructions, and standard operating procedures.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities in a manufacturing context.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams.
- Team-oriented mindset with the ability to work effectively with production, maintenance, and engineering colleagues.
Work Environment
This is an onsite position in a manufacturing setting where you work in an office environment closely integrated with the shop floor. You collaborate daily with the manufacturing team, production personnel, and maintenance staff to develop and implement tooling and process improvements. The role involves frequent interaction with production equipment, CNC machines, metal fabrication processes, and other manufacturing technologies, requiring a hands-on approach and regular presence on the shop floor.
