Ammonia Refrigeration Technician - Dallas, Texas
Job
Overview: Large manufacturing plant in Dallas, TX is looking for a strong Ammonia Refrigeration Technician. Certificates such as CARO, RETA, Ammonia Operator 1, etc. are preferred.
Schedule and Compensation: Open to overtime; usually Monday–Saturday.
Shifts:
3rd shift, 9:30 PM – 6:00 AM. Pay: $31.50–$36.50 per hour (DOE).
Benefits: Benefits kick in after 30 days; 80% premium of employee and dependents paid. 1 week of PTO accrued.
Essential Functions:
- Operate and maintain boilers, air compressors, and ammonia-based refrigeration systems in a frozen food manufacturing plant.
- Perform preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, mechanical and electrical repairs to ensure packaging, processing, and facility equipment operate at peak performance.
- Maintain accurate logs and documentation of operating conditions, system performance, and any issues encountered.
- Collaborate with team members and other departments to identify, communicate, and resolve problems.
- Ensure compliance with all company safety rules, GMPs, and USDA regulations.
- Safely and effectively maintain plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems through proper diagnosis, repair, and routine servicing.
- Assist with maintenance of production and processing machinery, mechanical equipment, and facility infrastructure.
- Repair and maintain pumps, conveyor systems, motors, and other equipment, following schematics, blueprints, manuals, or manufacturer specifications.
- Inspect, test, and evaluate machinery with operators to determine root causes of malfunctions.
- Conduct daily chemical testing, record results, and make system adjustments to maintain refrigeration and utility systems within established limits.
- Ensure safe, efficient operation of refrigeration, steam generation, and utility systems.
- Perform welding repairs on metal components and assist with equipment assembly.
- Work with PLC controls, VFD drives, and demonstrate proficiency in instrumentation.
Job Requirements &
Skills:
- Strong background in ammonia refrigeration, preferably in food manufacturing environments.
- 5–10 years of hands-on ammonia-based refrigeration experience preferred.
- Skilled in HVAC repair and maintenance.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team, adhering to Process Safety Management (PSM), company policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Availability for 24/7 on-call support.
- Maintain documentation for preventive maintenance, in-house audits, and annual inspections.
- Language
Skills:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical documents, manuals, and journals. Bilingual in English/Spanish strongly preferred. - Mathematical
Skills:
Solid math ability; capable of working with formulas and measurements. - Reasoning Ability:
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to read schematics, interpret mechanical drawings, collect data, and draw valid conclusions.
