Manufacturing ​/ Production Operator, Machine Operator

Purpose

Assists in setting up and operating thermoplastic extruders and associated production equipment to convert plastic resins into blown film for flexible plastic sheeting, tubing or bags.

• Follows Amcor Safety policies.
• Reviews Production Order Form specifications to ensure the correct equipment, packaging supplies, and raw materials are available to produce a product that meets the customer’s specifications.
• Assists in performing equipment production setup under the direction of the Lead Operator or its designee.
• Set up and controls extruder, die and tower to set film dimension and thickness.
• Set up and controls treater stations to prepare film surface.
• Set up and controls in‑line bag machines to set film dimensions and characteristics.
• Set up and controls winders to set film dimensions and characteristics.
• Set up and controls post gusseter to set film dimensions.
• Set up and controls folder to set film dimensions.
• Set up and controls in‑line press to set printed film.
• Set up and controls separator to separate film.
• Periodically observes and checks finished film coming off the production lines and, if detecting substandard product, takes immediate corrective action to eliminate causes.
• Under the direction of the Lead Operator may train team members in correct operating procedures, safety and quality policy procedures.
• Monitors production equipment to ensure it is operating properly; performs routine maintenance under the supervision of the Lead Operator.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Basic math skills.
• Solid computer skills.
• Good English skills; bilingual a plus (Spanish, Vietnamese).
• Experience with blown film extrusion.
• 2–5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment with extrusion experience preferred.
• Ability to troubleshoot & solve problems.
• Ability to provide guidance and leadership.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Must be punctual; on line on time.
• Must understand plastic weight, bag count and footage formulas.
• Must be able to read a tape measure.
• Must be able to understand customer specifications in the Production Order Form and know what finished flexible product should be produced that meets all the customer’s specifications.

• Regularly required to stand, walk and communicate.
• Ability to see and hear.
• Regularly required to move up to 35 lbs.
• Regularly required to stretch and bend.
• Frequently climb towers up to 35 feet high (no fear of heights).
• Regularly required to climb or balance.
