Maintenance Technician
$34 - $36hr
The Maintenance Technician plays a key role in a high-volume manufacturing facility that produces quality food products. In this position, you set up and maintain production machinery, troubleshoot and repair equipment issues, and perform preventive maintenance to keep operations running safely, efficiently, and in compliance with industry standards.
Responsibilities
- Provide emergency, unscheduled troubleshooting and repairs of production equipment during the manufacturing process to minimize downtime.
- Perform scheduled maintenance and repairs on production and facility equipment according to established plans and procedures.
- Prepare and set up machinery for scheduled production runs, ensuring correct configuration and readiness for operation.
- Repair and maintain heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment used throughout the facility.
- Perform mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and carpentry troubleshooting and repair on packaging and production line machines.
- Read and interpret equipment manuals, technical documentation, and work orders to carry out required maintenance and service tasks.
- Create and modify preventive maintenance procedures to improve equipment reliability and reduce unplanned outages.
- Coordinate and expedite repair operations with production supervisors to align maintenance activities with production needs.
- Ensure equipment operates at proper speeds and settings to meet throughput standards and product quality requirements.
- Manage daily work orders and complete all required maintenance documentation and paperwork in a timely and accurate manner.
- Perform cleaning operations using detergent baths, degreasing methods, grit blasting, wire brushing, and other appropriate techniques.
- Use power hand tools daily in a safe and responsible manner, following all safety guidelines.
- Conduct equipment inspections and correct any process or safety deviations discovered during checks.
- Write and share reports as needed, including Daily Communication Reports, to communicate events and activities that occurred during the shift.
- Follow OSHA, AIB, and SQF standards, and recommend and implement improvements needed to maintain compliance with these standards.
- Adhere to Company Handbook standards and rules at all times while on site.
- Report unsafe conditions and work-related accidents immediately to appropriate leadership or safety personnel.
- Evaluate workplace hazards and verify measures and procedures required to maintain a safe work environment.
- Ensure daily adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP), and Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) regulations.
- Work effectively in a fast-paced environment and support continuous improvement in safety, quality, and productivity.
- Train and support other team members by sharing technical knowledge and best practices when needed.
- Perform other related maintenance and facility support duties as assigned.
Essential Skills
- High school diploma, GED, or technical school education.
- At least five years of related experience in an industrial manufacturing environment in a maintenance position, preferably within an automated food processing plant.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to read work documents in English.
- Strong mathematical skills, including the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Strong reasoning ability, including applying common-sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form, and dealing with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively train others.
- Strong focus on safety and adherence to safety procedures.
- Good understanding of plant quality requirements and food safety standards.
- Good working knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
- Reliable attendance and solid work history.
- Strong team orientation and ability to work closely with others.
- Hands-on skills in electrical maintenance and repair.
- Hands-on skills in mechanical maintenance and repair.
- Experience with preventive maintenance in an industrial setting.
- Ability to read and work from blueprints and schematics.
- Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, and related systems.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting production equipment, including PLC troubleshooting.
- Ability to perform fabrication tasks and TIG welding as needed.
- Experience with machine operation in a manufacturing environment.
