Summary of Position

Founded in 1901, Child Care Group ’s (CCG) mission is to champion a strong early childhood system that teaches children and parents, trains early childhood professionals, and assists families.

The Vice President of Development is a strategic and results-driven leader responsible for designing and executing a comprehensive development strategy. This role oversees all fundraising activities, including individual giving, corporate partnerships, grants, and special events, to ensure sustainable revenue growth. Reporting to the CEO and serving as a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the VP of Development works closely with the Board and leadership team on overall agency strategy, builds strong donor relationships, aligns fundraising priorities with organizational impact, and establishes systems that support long-term success.

This is an onsite role, hybrid at CCG discretion. Travel is required as needed.

Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
  • Develop and implement a forward-thinking development strategy that complements Child Care Group ’s public funding base and drives diversified revenue streams.
  • Set and achieve annual and long-term fundraising goals through individual giving, corporate support, and grants.
  • Manage and grow a portfolio of major donors, focusing on deepening engagement and securing significant contributions.
  • Lead donor identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship efforts, translating organizational impact into compelling development opportunities.
  • Partner with the CEO to support high-level donor engagement, including strategy, prospect research, and tailored cultivation plans.
  • Equip Board members with tools and opportunities to actively participate in fundraising efforts.
  • Oversee grant activity, including strategy, writing, submission, and reporting for foundation, corporate, and select government funders.
  • Collaborate with communications and program teams to align messaging, data, and storytelling with fundraising priorities.
  • Design and execute strategic donor engagement opportunities such as events, site visits, and customized experiences.
  • Establish and maintain strong development infrastructure, including CRM integrity, pipeline management, and timely acknowledgments.
  • Track performance metrics, analyze trends, and adjust strategies to optimize fundraising outcomes.
  • Serve as a senior leader and cross-functional partner, contributing to organizational planning and fostering a culture of collaboration and accountability.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required. Advanced degree preferred.
  • CFRE or similar certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in development or nonprofit management, with a track record of success in major gifts and grant funding.
  • Proven ability to design and lead comprehensive fundraising programs, including annual giving, major gifts, capital campaigns, planned giving, and events.
  • Experience working closely with executive leadership and boards to advance development strategy.
  • Exceptional relationship-building skills and ability to engage donors at all levels.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including proposals and executive presentations.
  • Ability to interpret financial and program data and translate it into compelling cases for support.
  • Proficiency with donor databases/CRMs and Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with virtual collaboration tools.
  • Comfort managing goals, tracking performance, and adapting strategies based on results.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment with multiple priorities.
