ROLE: COMMUNITY ORGANIZER

Workers Defense Project is seeking a full‑time temporary Community Organizer based in Dallas to support the launch of a Community leadership program focused on building long‑term worker power and strengthening our membership base. This organizer will play a key role in recruiting, training, and supporting base building leaders
—trusted community leaders who organize within their own networks to build relationships and engage new members. The role focuses on relational organizing, leadership development, and strengthening our Dallas immigrant worker base.

This is a temporary position supporting a pilot leadership program that will run through December 10, 2026
.

THE ROLE IN ACTION:
  • Grow the membership base
    • Conduct door‑to‑door outreach, phone banking and community‑based outreach to recruit new members to Workers Defense
    • Hold one‑on‑one conversations to build relationships and recruit new worker‑members and leaders
    • Meet monthly base building goals
  • Recruit and Develop Community Leaders (Captains)
    • Recruit and onboard up to 30 Community Leaders by mid‑2026
    • Support a cohort of 30 active Community Leaders through the end of the year
    • Conduct regular one‑on‑one check‑ins with Community Leaders to develop leadership and accountability
    • Support Community Leaders in engaging their own networks and communities to build their own base
    • Lead on planning outreach events for community leaders to engage and bring others into the membership
  • Data, Reporting, and Coordination
    • Track outreach, conversations, leadership development, and base‑building metrics
    • Maintain accurate records of engagement in the organization’s database
    • Submit weekly updates and reflections on organizing work
    • Participate in organizing team meetings and cohort learning spaces
  • Community education and events
    • Train and mentor emerging leaders within Workers Defense membership
    • Move members and volunteers up the organization’s ladder of engagement
    • Support Community Leaders in hosting events and turning out their networks
    • Connect community members to Workers Defense campaigns, programs, and leadership opportunities
    • Conduct workshops about our campaigns and education of our work as needed by membership
    • Support with other organizational meetings and events
  • Support with grassroots fundraising efforts
  • Any other activities that are necessary to carry out the work of Workers Defense
WHAT YOU’LL BRING:
  • Fluent in English and Spanish
  • Ability to work irregular hours (evenings and weekends)
  • Excellent written and oral communication
  • Basic computer literacy (PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, Google Docs, slack & Internet)
  • Ability to work independently and juggle multiple responsibilities
  • Ability and flexibility for some out of state travel and instate travel
  • Ability to do in person work; going door to door canvassing, going to worksites, leading events or meetings at the office or other locations, conducting presentations or trainings at the office or other locations
  • Ability to drive and operate a vehicle. Will need to transport themselves to meetings, field activities etc.
  • Ability to hold one to one conversations with strangers
  • Ability to speak publicly in small or big settings
