Registered Nurse, Lactation Consultant

Work hours:

Full Time, 36 Hours, Days

• Average 400 deliveries per month
• 62 bed Mom/Baby unit
• Lactation provides consults on request, as well as outpatient consults
• Manages breast pump rentals, donor milk to go program and breast pump depot program
• Staffs 2-3 Lactation Consultants per day

• Associate degree from an accredited Nursing program
• BSN preferred
• One-year experience as a clinical nurse, or completion of an RN residency program
• One year of Lactation Consultant experience highly preferred
• IBCLC – Lactation Consultant certification within 12 months required
• IBCLC – Lactation Consultant certification upon hire highly preferred

• Function as expert resource on breastfeeding issues for patients, families, community, staff and physicians
• Serve as clinical expert for lactation issues based on evidence
• Produce documentation that initiates, follows and revises patient’s plan of care
• Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to improve care processes and promote continuity of care
• Review patient medications for potential complications associated with breastfeeding
• Assess outpatients for symptoms of jaundice and breastfeeding problems
• Participate in breast pump rental and retail sales within the Breastfeeding Resource Center
