The Licensed Practical or Vocational Nurse (LPN/LVN) is responsible for all departmental functions aligned with the mission, vision, and goals of PM Pediatrics. The LPN/LVN role is an opportunity for a pediatric LPN/LVN to apply their skills in a pediatric urgent care setting and assist with primary patient care based on individual patient needs within their scope of practice under the physician’s direct supervision.

This position maintains effective working relationships with all customers, including patients/families, physicians, employees, volunteers, and vendors.

Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical and administrative support for providers, patients, and office operations
  • Obtain medical history, patient vital signs, intake, and prioritize patient care
  • Perform procedures (venipuncture, IV insertion, urinary straight catheterization), administer medications (oral, rectal, IM, and IV), and assist the physician with total patient care within the scope of practice
  • Remain knowledgeable in pediatric pharmacology
  • Be an integral part of the patient care team and assist with patient care within the scope of practice
  • Perform monthly quality control checks in the office
  • Assist in performing quality control testing in the lab
  • Assist the physician with patient care, positioning, and comfort during the x-ray process
  • Keep exam rooms stocked with adequate medical supplies, maintain instruments, and proper sterilization tools and equipment as required
  • Practice standard safety practices and precautions
  • Help patients in distress by responding to emergencies and promptly notifying the physician
  • Establish effective rapport with clients, families, other employees, and physicians
  • Maintain operations by following policies and procedures; report needed changes to the management team
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
  • Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following and enforcing standards and procedures, complying with legal regulations
  • Maintain patient confidence and protect operations by keeping patient care information confidential in compliance with HIPAA regulations
  • Update knowledge by participating in continuing education requirements and opportunities, stay current with professional publications, maintain personal networks, and participate in professional organizations
  • Enhance health care practice reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and challenging requests; explore opportunities to add value to job accomplishments
  • Assist patients with complaints and take an active role in service recovery when needed
  • Assist the physician with a focus on efficiency metrics to improve urgent care flow and throughput (Arrival to Room, Arrival to Medication Administration, Disposition to Discharge, Discharge Length of Stay)
Qualifications
  • Pediatric experience is required;
    Pediatric ER, Pediatric hospital unit, or Pediatrics Urgent Care Experience preferred
  • Active state nursing license or active compact state licensure from the state you reside
  • Prior experience and competency with nursing procedures (not limited to IV placement, urinary straight catheterization, and medication administration)
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) is required, Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) recommended
  • Knowledge of medical practice and terminology, clinic process, and procedures
  • Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments
  • Skill in rapid assessment of the critical presentation of the pediatric population
  • Ability to use sound reasoning and judgment and act calm in emergencies
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and nonverbally
  • Energetic, highly motivated, customer service focused, positive attitude, confidentiality, teamwork, and professionalism
