This position works under general supervision of a Nursing Supervisor, Clinic Manager, or Clinical Practice Manager to provide nursing triage of all patient messages received via telephone or MyChart. The triage nurse will demonstrate sound clinical judgment that utilizes careful listening, critical thinking, and assessment skills.

• Licenses and Certifications Registered Nurse (RN) by Board of Nurse Examiners for State of Texas and Basic Life Support (BLS)

• Experience 2 years of ambulatory clinical nursing experience or emergency room experience preferred.

• Utilizes strong listening skills to interpret subtle indications of the patient's complaint without visual observation to form a thorough assessment.
• Follows clinic‑specific protocols and/or uses professional judgment and assessment skills to identify the nature and urgency of patient needs and determine the appropriate disposition.
• Provides patient education and advice to improve continuity of care, avoid unnecessary ER visits, and reduce risks of medical complications.
• Collects sufficient data related to the presenting problem and medical history, recognizing symptom patterns to provide safe, timely disposition.
• Refills medications per clinic‑specific protocols.
• May include core functions such as direct interaction with patients, maintaining/modifying patient or research records, or other duties as assigned.

This position is security‑sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code 51.215, which authorizes UT Southwestern to obtain criminal history record information.
