The Inpatient Float Pool at UT Southwestern is a high-impact, system-level nursing team that ensures safe, responsive, and flexible staffing across both Clements University Hospital and Zale Lipshy Pavilion. Float Pool RNs and PCTs are cross‑trained to support more than 30 inpatient units—including multiple critical care areas, med/surg, oncology, telemetry, progressive care, rehabilitation, and complex specialty services—adapting in real time to fluctuations in census, acuity, and staffing demands.

More than a coverage model, the Float Pool is a strategic clinical resource that partners with inpatient leadership, Central Staffing, and Hospital Administration to sustain safe care delivery and support hospital‑wide operations.
