The ECMO ICU is looking for experienced ECMO Specialist RNs who strive to deliver the highest quality care for our ECMO population. The ECMO Specialist is expected to prime, initiate therapy, independently perform circuit exchanges and emergent interventions, and be proficient in the operation of multiple ECLS components and pumps. Performs intra/inter hospital transport of ECLS patients as part of the interdisciplinary Rapid ECMO Deployment Team.
PatientPopulation
All ECLS patients receiving VA, VV, VP, VA‑V, RVAD and ECPR therapies. Disease processes including but not limited to postcardiotomy syndrome, cardiogenic shock, advanced heart failure, pre and post heart/lung transplant, ARDS, and post cardiac arrest.
Patient RatiosECMO Specialist to pump ratio 1:3
Department Specifics10 dedicated ECMO beds located inside CTTICU, dedicated ICU physicians and ACNP coverage 24/7, 100% certification rate (CCRN, CSC), multiple research trials and publications, and 1 of 2 NTX ECMO programs with ECMO Specialist RN‑led transport teams.

- Graduate of an Accredited Nursing Program
- License/Certification
- RN – Registered Nurse min 2 years CVICU or SICU
- BLS – Basic Life Support (required within 30 days of hire)
- ACLS - American Heart Association
- CCRN – through AACN
