NIGHT SHIFT
12hr PRN POSITION:
As needed
Provides care to assigned patient population in accordance with established protocols and multidisciplinary plan of care utilizing independent, dependent, and interdependent interventions to restore stability, prevent complications, and achieve and maintain optimal patient responses for all patients through patient-centered and patient-valued care.
Minimum SpecificationsEducation:
Must be a graduate from an accredited school of nursing. Prefer Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
- Current RN license or valid temporary permit with the Texas Board of Nursing or valid Compact RN license.
- Current BLS for Healthcare Providers certification from American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or Military Training Network.
- Current ALS or ACLS certification on hire or placement in role from American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or Military Training Network.
- Current NRP certification on hire or placement in role. Current incumbents and those hired between March 1–31 2025 will have 90 days to attain the certification. Must be from American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or Military Training Network.
- One of the following upon hire or transition: AWHONN Intermediate Electronic Fetal Monitoring Certificate, AWHONN Advanced Electronic Fetal Monitoring Certificate, or National Corporation Certification (NCC) Electronic Fetal Monitoring Certification.
- Retake the appropriate Electronic Fetal Monitoring certificate every two years from completion of the previous certificate (AWHONN Intermediate or Advanced).
- National Electronic Fetal Monitoring Certification must be renewed every three years.
- Provide care in accordance with the State of Texas Nurse Practice Act, established protocols, and clinical area standards.
- Pass Medication Examination prior to hospital orientation; current Parkland employees must have the exam on file.
- Perform continuous assessment, consult other team members, and demonstrate patient-centered care.
- Exercise independent judgment in nursing care.
- Demonstrate effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and staff in accordance with policies and procedures.
- Be able to communicate via overhead paging system if required.
- Provide direction to non‑nursing staff and serve as a preceptor.
- Demonstrate patient-centered behaviors and acceptable nursing standards of care for specialty areas.
- Serve as a patient advocate, focusing on patient needs, rights, confidentiality, and cultural preferences; maintain positive relationships with internal and external customers.
- Serve as a resource for patients, families, and team members; provide patient education and training.
- Maintain and implement knowledge of applicable regulations, policies, and laws; ensure compliance with accreditation and health plan requirements.
- Maintain knowledge of sanitation, infection control, equipment, and supply usage.
- Perform patient assessments, recognize changes in condition, and provide appropriate interventions; communicate changes to providers and implement orders timely.
- Provide appropriate duties during labor, vaginal delivery, cesarean, and immediate postpartum; support breastfeeding and newborn education.
- Administer medications safely, manage IV access, perform PoC monitoring, and uphold infection control practices.
- Support pain management and provide emergency resuscitation care to neonates and patients in Labor and Delivery.
- Maintain accurate documentation in patient care records and hospital documents.
- Direct non-nursing staff, participate in information exchanges, and provide hand‑off when relinquishing care.
- Act as preceptor or trainer for newer nursing staff.
- Identify process improvements to enhance patient satisfaction; implement and monitor results.
- Stay current with nursing developments, attend seminars, read journals, and participate in professional organizations; integrate new knowledge into practice.
- Commit to a minimum of two shifts per pay period when the hospital has need, including weekends and major/minor holidays.
- Must float to areas within skill set as required and maintain competency.
- Classified in regular relief status with no benefit eligibility.
- May be assigned on-call shifts; must accept assignments given by the hospital.
- No guarantee of work or minimum hours per week.
- Must have at least two years of specialty nursing experience and two years of overall nursing experience.
- Scheduling requirement adherence will be performance managed if not met.
