Position: Nurse Practitioner ICU Intensivist Critical Care (Days)

Position Highlights

  • Schedule:

    7:00 AM - 7:00 PM, 7 on / 7 off rotation, providing excellent work‑life balance.
  • Critical Care Focus:
    Provide high‑acuity care in a collaborative inpatient ICU setting.
  • Manageable Patient Load:
    Average of 12 patients per shift.
  • Clinical Responsibilities:
    • Inpatient rounding
    • New and established patient evaluations
    • Hospital and ED consults
    • Pre‑ and post‑operative care
    • Individual in‑basket management
  • Procedural Opportunities:
    Perform central lines, arterial lines, and intubations.
  • Autonomous Practice:
    High level of independence with physician support readily available and an expanding Critical Care team.
  • Mentorship & Onboarding:
    Structured 12‑18‑month transition program with physician oversight, peer mentorship, and formal training milestones.
  • Preferred Background:
    At least 1 year of Critical Care/Acute Care experience. New graduates welcome!

Job Summary

The NP Intensivist Medicine is a licensed, certified, non‑physician healthcare provider. They provide direct patient care and have prescriptive authority. They are credentialed, privileged, and billed as independent providers by Medicare and Medicaid. The Advanced Practice Provider offers medical care based on the supervising physician's scope of practice. Intensivist Medicine providers work in critical care settings, managing patients by rounding, performing procedures, and handling hospital admissions and discharges.

Functions of the Role
  • Assesses the physical and mental condition of patients by performing comprehensive or problem‑focused physical examinations and medical histories.
  • Orders, collects, interprets, and evaluates laboratory and other diagnostic tests to assess patient problems and health care needs.
  • Prescribes or recommends medical drug therapies or related treatments. Performs procedures following approved protocols with attention to efficacy, safety, and cost. Recommends interventions to change behavior linked to health risks.
  • Formulates and implements comprehensive patient treatment plans based on assessments, evidence‑based medicine, and standards of care. Collaborates with physicians and team members when appropriate. Evaluates patient response to care and the effectiveness of treatment.
  • Counsels patients and families about medical processes, illness management, medication, nutrition, and health promotion.
  • Maintains records detailing patient treatment plans and outcomes. Initiates timely consultation and referral when a problem exceeds scope of practice or expertise.
  • Provides consultation‑level services for conditions related to the provider's specialty and training.
  • Performs invasive procedures specific to scope of practice as delegated by supervising physician.
  • May conduct hospital rounds, assist with admissions and discharges, and provide on‑call support.

  • Knowledge of information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat injuries, diseases, and deformities, including symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties, interactions, and preventive health‑care measures.
  • Knowledge of practices, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions.

Qualifications
  • Texas RN licensure or RN licensure with compact privilege from a state in the Nurse Licensure Compact for RNs and LVNs, and Texas APRN.
  • Current license to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the state of Texas.
  • Certification from an accredited board as an APRN for the patient population of focus required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) within 30 days of hire or transfer.
  • Education:

    Graduate of an accredited program.
  • Experience:

    Less than 1 year of experience.
  • Certification/License/Registration:
    • Nurse Practitioner (NP)
    • Registered Nurse (RN)
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire or transfer.
    • Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Board Certification (ACNP‑BC) or Adult‑Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Board Certification (ACNPC‑AG) or Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Board Certification (NNP‑BC).
